Elton John the Divine?

A reader has sent me this link about Elton John’s birthday party. The king of wigs, who recently bashed religion as ‘hateful’ and said organized religion should be banned, celebrated in the Episcopal cathedral of St John the Divine in New York. The cathedral was transformed into a huge party venue for all the bent glitterati.

Just when you think things can’t get any more shocking and decadent in the Episcopal Church, they come up with yet another stunner.

Bleugh. Let him play dress up if he likes. He’s just silly.

I don’t think it quite equals the time they had an elephant, a llama, chimpanzees, a boa constrictor, assorted other animals and indiginous peoples in full regalia, plus a vice-president ( Gore, of course ) all packed into the area around the altar. Even in costume, one aging doofus doesn’t make quite the impact he imagines.

Hrmmm… though for a split second he reminded me of a certain presiding *ahem*-Bishop.

There is nothing wrong with having a bunch a animals in church for St. Francis. However, renting out your sanctuary for a drunken bash – to a man who has said that he wants religion banned, no less – is another thing entirely. I guess the Cathedral’s new philosophy – thanks to bureaucrat-in-chief Dean Kowalski – is “Jesus is nice; Mammom is even better.”

I believe the photo is actually from Elton John’s 50th birthday. The one in the Cathedral was supposed to be more subdued.

The photo was from his 50th, but I couldn’t resist it…

That outfit makes him/her/it look like one of those martians from ‘Mars Attacks’– albeit a more matronly and infintely more hideous one. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Both the man and his lifestyle turn my stomach.
