Obnoxiously Pious

I’ve often said that there’s at least one thing the Catholics win hands down: clerical headgear. A fun new UK Catholic blog called Obnoxiously Pious has some pictures if you’re interested. The real collector of this stuff is over at Dappled Things

It’s not easy to find out who is behind ‘Obnoxiously Pious’ Does the ‘OP’ soubriquet indicate a secret blog by some Dominicans? I suspect those guys in Oxford who gave us Godzdogz. Anyway, last week OP kicked off last week with an intriguing post about various kooky Catholic schisms on the other side of the Atlantic. There are plenty on the North American continent as well–especially when you start digging into the plethora of Anglican breakaway churches. They all have their Apostolic Succession pedigrees, their Archbishops and Eparchs and Monsignors and Archdeacons. I love this stuff, and fear a fascination with Episcopi Vagans may lead to a dangerously obsessive new hobby.

The Celtic Episcopal Church is worth a look. Check out their Clergy/Altars page for some pics of dapper clergymen.http://www.celticepiscopalchurch.com/index.html

Don’t forget a quick visit to the Church of the Culdees; but beware the heavy duty bagpipe music when you click on. It’s a killer.http://www.continet.com/culdee/

I’d love the pipes, but I’ll pass. I’ve seen too much of heterodoxy and plan on ignoring it as much as it’ll let me.Culdees, eh. Probably druid wannabes with a Christian gloss.

I’ve always liked Pope Michael too, but the Palmarian Catholic Church takes the cake for me. They have vision from Jesus and the Blessed Virgin, an blind antipope with tiara, the works. What more could you want? =)Regarding episcopi vagantes, I too am simply fascinated by this stuff. You should read the conspiracies surrounding the Thuc line of bishops. And with Archbishop Emmanuel Millingo entering the fray, this could prove to be fascinating. Haha…adrift off the barque of Peter. That’s where it gets you.

Dangerous preoccupation?Yes, Fr. Dwight. Lot’s wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt. Perhaps that is worth some meditation.

How many cereal box tops do I have to save up to send off for the cool catholic cowboy hat?
