Mork the Dork

New York, Jun 20, 2007 / 10:14 am (CNA).- Robin Williams has decided that he won’t pay any consequences for ridiculing the Church in public, says The Catholic League. On Monday night’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Williams equated all priests with pedophiles and mocked confession.

Leno invited the actor on to his show to plug his upcoming movie “License to Wed,” in which he plays a Protestant minister who forces a couple to go through marriage preparation courses. However, the experience of portraying a minister didn’t seem to engender any respect for the clergy in him.

Williams pretended to play a game with Jay Leno where a pedophile is hidden under a cup. “Here we go. Find the priest, find the pedophile. Find the priest, find the pedophile. Here you go right now. Move ‘em around, move ‘em around. Oh, you found the pedophile.”

Williams then put his hand over his groin, saying, “You have to realize that if you are a Catholic priest, you have retired this. That’s it—no more sex.” Then he took a shot at confession: “But they are going to put you in a small dark box and people are going to tell you the nastiest sexual stuff they have done.”

Bill Donahue was angered by the fact that, “Isaiah Washington lashes out at one gay person in private, and he is banished from ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ Robin Williams lashes out against all priests in public, and he suffers no consequence.”

Pointing out that the actor has calculated the risks of targeting the Church, Donahue quoted an interview with MoviesOnline in which Williams recently said, “‘you can’t poke fun at certain religions,’ but ‘we just made major fun of the Catholic Church but hey, they don’t blow you up.’” Donahue said this makes Williams not just “a bigot and a liar” but also “a coward.”

Here’s the real story: Aging Actor, former funny man’s career is fading. Agent says, “Robbie old boy, you gotta do something to attract attention. Here’s a lousy script. It doesn’t call for funny voices, but you need to use the other two expressions on your face: serious and sentimental.
Once the movie’s made you need some more attention. I know, let’s throw stones at the Catholic Church. That’s always good for some headlines. Don’t worry, there’s a bit more mileage in you yet Rob, potshots at the Catholic Church is pretty low, but hey, we’re desperate!”

Well we could play the game of find the comedian and in most cases we would not find Robin Williams.Like exactly when was his last funny movie? I mean someone who could make RV is not exactly someone you go to as having good judgment. His attack of the Church is just another proof of her truth.

I’ve never cared for him. Now I remember why. What is more pitiful than an aging liberal?

I liked Robin Williams, I thought him a funny man, how sad he is brought down to this.

What a sad commentary when Robin plays the fool and is treated as a hero…and Bill plays the hero, yet is treated as the fool!We pray…AND show our displeasure with our wallets!

I’ve seen the trailers for this in the theater. It looks absolutely vapid.Hollywood always excels at showing their ignorance of all things associated with Christianity.

I think the problem is that we Catholics let people like Robin Williams get away with their anti-Catholic remarks. America still has a culture of anti-Catholicism. Watch the View, read the Boston Globe, listen to the “media.” The bias is always against the Church whose position is never fairly presented. Other “Christian” religious leaders continue to spew their invective and get plenty of air time. If enough Catholics would put their complacency aside and not stand for anti-Catholic remarks and behavior perhaps men like Williams would fade away. We have only ourselves to blame.

Williams’s dumb performance leaves us all with a clear perception of what a silly little man he really is. Now it’s left to see what Leno will do. It’s his show. Will he allow this type of insult? Or will he accept some responsibility?

By ridiculing our Church & our priests he is also ridiculing God. I think that we should pray for Robin Williams as he is on a very slippery slope.
