Avast There Mateys…Arrr Haar.

For an interesting round up of famous pirates and news about a meeting in England of the descendents of pirates link here.

My own ancestry is very holy (almost). Both sides of my family are descended from devout Protestant Christians who came to the colony of Pennsylvania from Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and England to pursue religious freedom. They were Mennonite, Brethren and Amish mostly. They were serious, godly and hard working people.

However, some relatives recently suggested that the famous outlaw, the Sundance Kid (pictured below) may be a relative of ours. Harry Longabaugh, from German descent was brought up in a religious Protestant home in the same part of Pennsylvania as us. Last names were pretty fluid, and with the outlaw using various aliases, the relatives wondered if Longabaugh might be one of the variations on Longenecker (Langenegger, Longnecker, Langenedder) Other research shows that the Sundance Kid was descended from Conrad Langenbeck, who came to Pennsylvania in 1750.

I doubt it. Langenbeck is too far from Longenecker. But it was fun while it lasted…

That would be very interesting to be related to Sundance Kid. My family and I are related to Francis Scott Key.
