Well, if a priest ever wears this–it would be because it was a gift from his parishoners and he would wear it–because he loved them–and could chalk it up to an act of penance. My priest has a “pink,” sorry “rose” one that he wears twice a year–but you can see his extreme discomfort in doing so–it was a gift–from some members of the parish. When he wears it, I think he’s a very loving priest–because even though he hates it–he does it as an act of love for the gift.

The rubrics call for rose!

I Think of it as yet another reason to celebrate Mass facing God. Mass is not about the priest it is about the sacrifice of Calvary. The priest is only the instrument God uses. Just as in the ancient Church when a curtain was drawn between the people and the priest, so too, when the priest faces East he becomes the curtain veiling the mystery of the altar.

We were showing a group of third graders around a sacristy earlier this week, and the priest was showing them how he vests, reviewing the liturgical colors. The kids were absolutely enamored by the rose.As far as rose vestments go, it wasn’t bad. But yeah…It’s still rose. Oh, and simple sinner: I believe it’s optional only.

simple sinner:It’s all in the interpretation. Being an artist, I see orange, red-orange, orange-red, red, but my husband thinks they are all red–same with the rose–just a matter of interpretation.

I thought rose was the required color on Laetare and Gaudete Sundays.
