We Are Not Amused

This article from the Daily Telegraph reports that the Queen of England, and head of the Church of England, is not amused, indeed she is heartily dismayed, by the present direction of the Church of England. She is reported to be increasingly sympathetic to the Catholic Church and has much admiration for Pope Benedict XVI.

Let’s face it, the Church of England is never going to roll over and submit to the Holy Father, but it would be rather nice if a conservative group were to split off, join the Catholics and have Her Majesty come long for the ride. She could repudiate her role as the head of the Church of England, and the Anglicans could elect Elton John to take her place. That way they could have everything they really want: homosexual marriage and an old English queen as the head of their religion.

Bravo, Father! Your link to the Telegraph is incorrect, however. Here is the correct link. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/theroyalfamily/6258011/Queen-appalled-at-Church-of-England-moves-claim-Vatican-moles.html

The Elton John comment is hilarious! All hilarity aside, I concur.

SIR Elton John as Defender of the Fluff! Then Anglicans could play their post-modern 'language games with no rules (canons)' with catchy tunes.Because you have to admit, Sir Elton writes good music, which is really all you need to run a legitimate Protestant religion. The Bible certainly doesn't specifically condemn having a pop musician as head of the Church of England. I've certainly never seen any verses dealing with that subject, so it isn't an issue.Talk about a Fresh Expression! It was Sir Elton who said the great thing about pop music is it's so disposable. Same goes for pop religion and doctrine. After all, only Anglican pop music parishes are still attracting people.

Great photo!Whatever Her Majesty was grimacing about, she well expresses my reactions to many things these days, none of which is specifically Anglican.

Fr. Darryl,I may be in error, but I believe that most of Sir Elton's music is written by Bernie Taupin.

The photograph is priceless. I like to think she's just seen Katharine Schori for the first time.

Love the ending. And I love the look on the Queen's face.

I can't envision her ever leaving the Anglican Church but I can dream of her one day saying," Excuse me Archbishop, but as I am the head of the church and all, I would greatly appreciate seeing all the homosexual clergy cleared out, oh, by Tuesday, thank you. You're dismissed now".

I have a great deal of respect for the Queen. We can only dream that one day what Henry VIII did will be undone.Who knows?? With prayer and patience, and more prayer?
