Michelle and Maggie

“Let them eat cake…” Nigel Gardiner of the Daily Telegraph reports here on the free flowing spending habits of Michelle Obama. Seems she likes expensive holidays at the tax payers expense. All this while America is in recession, and the African Americans she and her husband pretend to champion are doing the best they can to keep their heads above water.

I like the comment of one of the readers of Gardiner’s article, quoting Maggie Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.”

I have to wonder, Father, if you would be creating such a post if a Republican president were in power and his or her spouse wanted to travel, etc. Forgive my skepticism, but something tells me you'd write that off as goodwill building. Instead, you've chosen to bring race into the mix (something that progressives are supposedly guilty of always doing).

Umm…these bills wouldn't look so bad if the economy was bustling and booming. But to have these *extravagant* vacations for (Lord almighty) 42 days is a tad too much when the masses are looking at austerity budgets and working two jobs etc just to make it to the weekend. It's just painful! The leaders should set an example…

Don't try to find out how much the previous President's family spent. You should be just as horrified.I believe this shows it has nothing whatsoever to do with socialism versus capitalism.

Steve, you don't really understand me. My roots are Mennonite. I can't stand politicians of any stripe. The only thing I prefer about the Right wing politicians is that they aren't as hypocritical as the Left.Left wingers come along spouting all this junk about helping the poor, peace and justice and 'give me a Nobel prize for nothing' then they get rich on the back of the presidency, take posh holidays, line the pockets of their buddies and wage war just like the rest of them.At least with the Right wing you know what they're about. They're into power, money and biffing the bad guys–and they're up front about it.Therefore, I prefer the Right wing because they're more realistic. I dislike the Left because they are ideologically driven and I fear and distrust all ideologies because, in the end, ideologies kill people.

Steve, who brought up race at all?!!I teach at an HBCU, and am daily amazed at how people see race no matter what the issue is: race, race, race. While I have found many whites actually root MORE for the minority candidate, or Obama, since they want a good showing. The way you sling the word, it is quite obvious you are hung up on race … and most likely white. Michele Obama was a millionaire when she got to the WHite House. Would be nice if she could resist the Jackie O/Nancy Reagan crap.
