We used to have a May Day celebration in the elementary school I attended in Pennsylvania. There was a May King and Queen and the little kids were the may court. They’d process out to Pomp and Circumstance and watch the other kids perform class by class. Some classes did square dancing or a little play. One year in first grade we marched up and down carrying American flags to some John Philip Sousa music. The Sixth graders always did the maypole dance to that jaunty little English folk tune, “In an English Country Garden”
