See You In Seattle!

I’m headed to Seattle this morning to take part in the Frassati Conference at St Mary Star of the Sea parish in Bremerton tomorrow. If you’re in the Seattle WA area, come and join us. Information at the website link above.

I’ll be keynote speaker on the New Evangelization and conducting two workshops: Evangelizing in Families with St John Bosco and St Benedict for Fathers.

Y’all come!

Business or Economy Class Father? Now that the Holy Father has remonstrated everyone to live a simpler life I gather that the days of perks are over for many of the monsignore. It will be interesting to see if the Cardinale flying to and from Rome will be ‘among the people’ or ‘up in front’ while preaching the Gospel of the Poor as Francis has called the clergy to do so. What of the Bishops who live in palaces and imperial estates? Of course Francis is a Jesuit who took the evangelical counsels but there are many Archbishops who are also Benedictines, Jesuits, Franciscans, and other orders who are also Cardinals. Do the patrimonies of their Dioceses ask them to keep the Episcopal Residences for historical reasons or do they divest the properties and use the funds for social justice and for the corporal works of mercy for the Diocese and move in to a rectory or a top floor in the Chancery as many Bishops have done in the past? Something to at least think about…..

Economy. However, for long flights I get an Economy plus seat if I can. This is fifty bucks extra and gives you five inches extra leg room.

What I’d really like to see is not only the clergy living lives of apostolic simplicity, but the lay people too. Do you?

That would have been interesting. Do you go out there often, or is this the first time? I am heading to Bremerton next week.
