Cinematographers with Spellbinding Instagram Accounts

Cinematographers with Spellbinding Instagram Accounts July 30, 2015

I’ll be honest. A website that licenses music wasn’t where I would have expected to find a blog post about cinematography. But I’m catholic (small “c”, in this case), so I don’t really care where awesome comes from, just as long as I find it.

In that vein, I can confirm that this blog post from Premium Beats on the Instagram accounts of great (and in some cases, even famous) cinematographers is both unexpected and awesome. Especially since it starts with @chivexp (otherwise known as back-to-back Oscar-winning Emmanuel Lubezki). Unsurprisingly, he’s a fine photographer. Perhaps a bit more surprisingly, they’re almost all portraits (with a few landscapes). In other words, there’s almost nothing that would tell you he’s a cinematographer. (The quality of his eye for striking visuals, though, is obvious from the first frames.)

Another tree.

If you’re looking for someone who’s a bit more obvious about his “day job,” try @libatique (aka, frequent Aronofsky collaborator and Iron Man lenser Matthew Libatique). He’s also funnier/sillier (if the Photoshopped entries are any indication), and a bit more photojournalistic/fly-on-the-wall/less classical than Lubezki. Which is exactly what one would expect from their films, actually.

Taking flight with the #Inspire1. Thanks to #dji @dji #Chicago

The PremiumBeats post lists eight DP’s in all (of whom Reed Moran is the greatest revelation to me) so check the whole thing out. If you’re like me, though, and you love photography and movies, it might be a bit of a time sink. Just a bit. (Now that I know that this is an actual thing, I think maybe it’s time to get an Instagram account.)
