Trump Begins a Twitter Offensive Against Iran

Uncle Ranty Tweeter-Pants is at it again.

So let’s set the scene.

On Sunday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo addressed Iranian counter-protesters, who have taken to the streets in their nation, to protest to oppressive theocratic government.

Pompeo further spoke about Iranian leadership, referring to them as “hypocritical holy men,” and making comparisons between them and the mafia.

He’s not far off the mark, actually.

Iran stands as a stark example of why theocracies do not work. The counter-protesters in the streets now are a result.

Hot tip, guys: True faith starts in the home. Our homes are the fertile ground from which societies grow, either good or bad. If you attempt to legislate faith, you get a push back, eventually.

Secretary Pompeo went on to call on others to stand with the Iranian protesters in a supportive role.

So how do you imagine the leadership of Iran took it?

Not well.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani responded shortly after:

“America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars,” Rouhani told a group of diplomats.

Seriously, dude. When was the last time anyone outside of equally-maniacal nations enjoyed any sort of “peace” with Iran?

What would that even look like?

You bozos have been off the chain since 1979. You wouldn’t know peace if it strolled up to your front door with a big bouquet of daisies and a muffin platter.

Any nation that routinely spews hate and talk of murder towards another nation, simply because that nation exists is not interested in peace.

Yes. I’m talking about Iran’s attitude towards Israel, and if any of you are followers of Biblical prophecy, you know Iran will take its shot, eventually.

And Donald Trump’s idiotic tweets will be the very least of their worries.

Just sayin’…

But back to the present and this escalation of the asinine – we can blame former President Obama for giving in to this den of thugs.

Obama, as faithless as they come, struck a dead end deal with the Iranian government on his way out the White House door.

Leading an international agreement, President Obama released the purse strings that had kept a hateful regime somewhat tethered, lifting sanctions in return for Iran agreeing to curb their nuclear ambitions.

First of all, Iran issues threats against Israel and the United States 24/7. That’s a non-starter. At least, it should have been, but I always got the idea that President Obama didn’t really mind when nations breathed threats against Israel (or the U.S.).

For my fellow conservatives, likewise disgusted by the age of Trumpism, if you’re tempted to drift into bouts of nostalgia for Barack Obama, you are in error.

The age of principled leadership in Washington, long struggling, gasped and gave up the ghost on January 20, 2009.

History is already recalling the presidency of George W. Bush with bipartisan fondness – something few thought would ever happen.

For all of his missteps as president, Bush 43 was a decent and rational human being.

What we’re dealing with now is neither decent nor rational.

As if there was something going on that required distraction, Trump began lashing out on social media Sunday evening.

In a tweet, written in all caps and directed explicitly at Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Trump wrote: “Never, ever threaten the United States again or you will suffer consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before. We are no longer a country that will stand for your demented words of violence & death. Be cautious!”

I’m going to assume a catchy nickname for Rouhani is forthcoming.

And by now, we know how this scene plays out.

One of the top commanders with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had a response to Trump’s Twitter rant, likening it to psychological warfare.

Yeah. Trump isn’t that advanced. He’s just fever tweeting and desperate.

Gholamhossein Gheybparvar said America wants to “destroy Iran,” but Trump “cannot do a damn thing,” Reuters reported, citing Iranian news agency ISNA.

“We will never abandon our revolutionary beliefs,” Gheybparvar added, according to the news service.  “We will resist pressure from enemies.”

“America wants nothing less than (to) destroy Iran,” he continued. “Trump cannot do a damn thing against Iran.”

Let’s give it about six months. Trump will call for a summit with Rouhani. Rouhani will compliment his tie during a private session. Trump will emerge to call Rouhani a wonderful person and strong leader, while doubling Obama’s generous allowance, and saying it’s in the interest of peace.

Obama 2.0 strikes again.

When I read the tweet last night I immediately thought of our expats, military personnel and their families overseas.

Trump sits comfy surrounded by secret service challenging Iran to a duel, but that’s not how state sponsors of terrorism work. They aren’t going to wage conventional war their going to target low hanging fruit.

  • GotMyLoveGlassesOn

    Indeed. He doesnt care.

  • captcrisis

Both you and Trump seem to have missed the “mother of all peace” phrase which was at the beginning of Iran’s statement.

  • WW

We’re threatening war on Twitter now. It’s hard to believe this is even real.

  • IllinoisPatriot

Sooner or later our enemies (Russia, Iran, N. Korea, China) will figure out the Trump is more vulnerable than any president in history.

All they have to do is to concentrate terrorist activity at Trump resorts around the world and their memberships with terrorist activity. Make it dangerous to stay there or to belong there. Destroy or cause serious damage to the property and go after the members and then make it known that the attacks on Trump properties are politically motivated.

The SS cannot (and does not) protect private property – especially property outside the US boundaries. The properties are still owned / controlled by Trump. Destroying Trump properties and threatening his business livelihoods is the quickest way to seriously get under Trump’s skin and enrage him without him being able to do anything about it.

Specifically target Trump properties (and Trump family members when vacationing outside the US to curtail THEIR movements). Destroy Trump’s business properties overseas – particularly in countries where the US has no legal jurisdiction and no authority to prosecute or investigate. The one thing Trump DOES care about is his businesses and his reputation. These would be soft targets with HUGE potential to provide leverage over the sitting US President. The more it becomes apparent that America’s enemies are targeting Trump properties and those that stay there, the more damage is done to Trump’s ego. True low-hanging fruit.

Trump is a school yard bully who thinks name calling and threats will force our enemies into submission. Trump is wrong and is in way over his head.

  • JASmius

It took Trump over a year to finally withdraw from the JCPOA. This is the start of his reinsertion, after a bunch of bombastic doubling down on Obama’s version.

When you say “you and Trump”, are you addressing Susan? If so, I don’t believe she missed that phrase. She wrote, “Seriously, dude. When was the last time anyone outside of equally-maniacal nations enjoyed any sort of ‘peace’ with Iran?

Yes, I am addressing Susan. Her comments as to Iran are ignorant and uninformed. It is not a Christian way of looking at things. Rouhani’s statement was partly a threat but also partly an olive branch. It was not the statement of a crazy belligerent.

Note that the reason Iran dominates the region is that in 2003 we stupidly destroyed its main rival Iraq.

Iran was party to the agreed upon framework as to nuclear development, signed not only by Obama but Germany, Britain, France, China and Russia. Are Germany, France and Britain “equally-maniacal nations”?

Iran is also a (kind of) democracy. They elect a President every four years, and a new Parliament every four years (not the same years). It has rightwing/terrorist and moderate factions. Unfortunately the terrorist faction, and American conservatives, have a symbiotic relationship. Each makes the other stronger. Rouhani, by Iranian standards, is a moderate. In response to Trump’s belligerence he has to either move farther to the right, or lose the next election to a right-winger.

Iran hasn’t started a war since the 1850s, but if fantasizing about how they’re going to get their comeuppance because an ancient book says they’re going to attack a country that didn’t exist until 1948 makes you feel like a warrior against the Persian menace then I guess that’s your choice.
