Weekend News Prompts Fresh Monday Morning Rage From President Trump August 20, 2018

It’s Monday morning, so while First Lady Melania Trump is off addressing a conference about her “Be Best” initiative and anti-cyberbullying, her husband, President Trump is flailing about like a crazed man, attacking people on the internet.

Somebody please transcribe Melania’s speech today, so we can decipher her coded language.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest that the president may seem particularly unhinged today, following the weekend news that White House counsel Don McGahn has spent over 30 hours cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller.

The report from the New York Times pointed out that the president’s initial legal team felt comfortable working with special counsel in the Russia probe, because they felt he’d done nothing wrong and cooperating with the investigation would likely buy some good will.

McGahn, however, began to suspect that Donald Trump was setting him up to take the fall, so he worked to cover himself, in the event the president was truly looking for a scapegoat.

While attempting to play off the news of McGahn’s cooperation with special counsel, Trump’s attorneys were later forced to admit that they had no real idea of just how extensive McGahn’s cooperation with Mueller’s team may have been.

So today, President Trump is Twitter raging.

“Anybody needed that much time when they know there is no Russian Collusion is just someone looking for trouble,” Trump said over two tweets.

“They are enjoying ruining people’s lives and REFUSE to look at the real corruption on the Democrat side – the lies, the firings, the deleted Emails and soooo much more!” Trump wrote. “Mueller’s Angry Dems are looking to impact the election. They are a National Disgrace!”

No. It’s just another special counsel investigation. We’ve had them before. The disgrace is in why there is a need for a special counsel, not in the team of investigators, themselves. They’re just doing a job.

For Trump, that job and our American system that allows for there to be special counsel to examine and root out corruption in the upper offices of power is an inconvenience. He has lived his life in such a way that he’s always sought to stay several steps ahead of justice, and now he can feel the heat of its breath on the back of his neck. Of course it must be unsettling for him.

When you consider that the man leading the charge is the same man that brought down the Gambino crime family, as well as several leading mafia figures, it takes on special significance. Trump has long been suspected of letting his businesses serve as a laundering outfit for dirty mafia money, in the past.

President Trump is now framing his panicky tweets and attacks on Robert Mueller as concern for the upcoming midterm elections. That’s ironic, when you consider that many feel the release of the hacked DNC emails helped Trump win in 2016.

I don’t know how much that may have helped, but it certainly turned some Democrats away from Hillary Clinton and to fringe candidates, like the Green Party’s Jill Stein.

“They made up a phony crime called Collusion, and when there was no Collusion they say there was Obstruction (of a phony crime that never existed),” Trump added. “If you FIGHT BACK or say anything bad about the Rigged Witch Hunt, they scream Obstruction!”

To be clear – since clarity is not a gift anyone should expect from Donald Trump – collusion is not a “phony” crime. It is an umbrella term for a series of crimes, and there is enough evidence in this case against multiple Trump campaign team members to matter.

The obstruction is not what is being screamed back at Trump’s madness.

The obstruction is what prompted the need for a special counsel investigation. That’s the part that Trump misses, and keeps missing. His rage at everyone outside of his very tight circle will do nothing to combat the fact that he’s his own worse enemy.
