Well, I’m feeling funked and punked, coughing my wee little lungs up and craving sleep, so I guess I’m relapsing, or trying not to. And I read that Captain Ed is also under the weather.
I don’t understand it! We bloggers sit around in our jammies all day and speak to no one! How are we getting so sick???
Sigh. It’s a conspiracy. Where’s my tinfoil hat?
I suspect we can make the Captain come out of his Quarters if we continue to ad some funds to his excellent World Vision Tsunami Relief effort…just thought I’d nag you a bit on it.
Hugh Hewitt is nagging as well. He’s also linking to this incredible story of how the US is pulling all the lose ends together in a world undone. Great read. Also, Hugh’s book, BLOG is readily available (within 24hrs) at Amazon, and I’ve ordered my copy! (Hey, Mr. Hewitt, if I send it to you, would you autograph it?)
I know I only linked to him yesterday, but I TOLD you he was worth reading everyday…so go back to Drew’s Place (Darn Floor) and read and scroll down and read some more. I like this part a lot:
Chuck Simmins You Big Mouth, You has compiled an exhaustive list of private contributions to the tsunami relief effort. (Get the PDF here.) He notes that this list does not include donations of goods and services — just monetary amounts. Chuck writes:
By the time all the fundraising efforts are completed, the people of the United States will have donated far more than those of any other nation on the planet.
At the moment, we stingy Americans have given $236,496,471 in private contributions. Not bad.
One of my best pals is a journalist with a network, (but he’s a living doll and we love him). Predictably, he doesn’t love blogs, although he doesn’t hate them, either. I told him to check out Evangelical Outpost’s bit on natural evil yesterday, and today he came right back at me with today’s excellent ruminations, so I guess they’ve made a blog-believer of sorts outta him! It’s a good read. And you know what Grandma always said: If you want to be a good writer, you must be a good reader! UPDATE: I misunderstood my pal…while he liked the excellent ruminations very much, he originally found them at the NYTIMES. Credit where it’s due, and all that!
Speaking of newsmen, this is a very disturbing report about a gathering of “mostly journalists” at Harvard – cheering Norman Mailer as he says that it was not Jesus but “the devil who speaks to George Bush every night.” Happily, some journalists do express, within the article, discomfort with their demonstrative brothers and sisters (whatever happened to “no cheering in the press box”) and the writer also examines the depth of partisan news presentment by both the press and by bloggers…but still the whole thing is a disturbing, and necessary, read.
Kim reports that the Tsunami is being blamed on Christmas in some quarters. Heh. And they think we’re nuts.
LaShawn has some really neat pictures from a blogger meet-up over at her neck of the woods. I gotta get out of the pajamas and try to socialize more…this looks like a very likable crew.
Well, I think that’s it for tonight. I could link you to about a hundred different sites that are griping and kvetching about the US being just too damned effective, and not kowtowing enough to the UN, but really – why bother – you know where to find that stuff. Have a good night.
