Favorite people of the right

Favorite people of the right October 1, 2007

I have to admit, I had difficulty participating in this poll by Right Wing News. I had such a hard time naming 12 people on the right (or the perceived right) that I almost didn’t take part. But “right” was interpreted pretty broadly:

…anybody on the right or generally perceived to be on the right that they liked: Republican, Conservative, Libertarian, politician, preacher, blogger, columnist, radio host,

Even with that I had difficulty. I think I’m just not good at these sorts of questions. I never could come up with 20 people who were screwing up America, either. I have no gift for lists.

The results of John’s poll: Honorable Mentions: Larry Elder – 4, Mary Katherine Ham – 4, Brit Hume – 4, Bill O’Reilly – 4, Jeff Sessions – 4, Robert Spencer – 4, John Stossel – 4, Walter Williams – 4

21) Tom Tancredo – 5
21) Condi Rice – 5
21) Charles Krauthammer – 5
21) Hugh Hewitt – 5
21) John Bolton – 5
20) Sean Hannity – 6
20) Jim DeMint – 6
16) Judge Antonin Scalia – 7
16) Jonah Goldberg – 7
16) Tom Coburn – 7
16) Glenn Beck – 7
13) Glenn Reynolds — 8
13) Duncan Hunter – 8
13) Neal Boortz – 8
10) Victor David Hanson – 9
10) Laura Ingraham – 9
10) Dick Cheney – 9
9) Rudy Giuliani – 10
8) George W. Bush – 11
6) Fred Thompson – 13
6) Thomas Sowell – 13
5) Newt Gingrich – 14
4) Mark Steyn – 17
2) Michelle Malkin – 19
2) Ann Coulter – 19
1) Rush Limbaugh – 28

I think I named 5 of the top 21, but no one I named made it to the top 5. Nice to see Glenn Reynolds in there, and Jonah Goldberg. I’d also voted for Ed Morrissey and Betsy Newmark and thought others might. Ah, well.

I read that list and realize, I really am much out of step with internet conservatism. No, I’m not calling it “mainstream.” The internet is not there, yet. It is ridden furiously by many who spend their lives here – including me. But I’m not going to delude myself that the rest of America has nothing better to do that surf and stew.
