Once again, I want to say thanks to all of you who enter Amazon via this site (either through product links or the Amazon search box on the right). When you enter Amazon through The Anchoress, you generate a bit of income for me, and I use some of it to supplement my own income, and donate a percentage of it to various charities; some months it is the hospice that helped my brother through his last, sometimes it is a local retreat house; this month, I donated $75.00 (just over 30%) to the much-needed renovations our Dominican nun friends are undertaking in New Jersey. These sisters, who are enclosed, do not have the elbow room and acres of land we see in some other monasteries, so the space in which they live out their lives needs to be workable for them.
While I cannot see who is buying what, I am always intrigued by the things people are buying; I didn’t know some of these items even existed! I also wanted to know how people their purchases. For instance, someone bought this lumbar back stretcher, and I am interested in knowing if you like the thing, as my neighbor is considering it. Also thank you to whoever bought this wireless speaker system, which looks pretty neat. Do these brain thingies work? Is this Oilskin coat really waterproof? How cool looking (and sort of anime-awesome) is this Oilskin vest? And this thing, what is this? Did you know you can design your own rings at Amazon? Nobody has done that through this site, but still – amazing – it’s a whole big world out there!
Anyway, thank you. I truly appreciate it when you shop Amazon through the site, or patronize my advertisers (which keeps them advertising with me!) – it all helps keep me writing, and I am very grateful! If you are not buying Mystic Monk Coffee for your dad this Father’s Day, I do hope you will check out these gift ideas or these.

I have one of the lumbar extend thingies. I bought it from Amazon but I’m pretty sure I didn’t pay anything like that much for it. When I lie on it my spine pops like at a chiropractic adjustment. For me it’s good because I tend to slouch when I sit at the computer so it stretches those muscles in the opposite direction. For what it’s worth I’m a little over 5’4″ and I don’t think it would work for anyone shorter than that. The lowest setting is still quite a stretch for me.

That oilskin vest looks like what Kakashi from Naruto wears!
I’m always delighted to head to amazon.com via your blog. My credit card, however, does not thank you, although I do! I got another box today from amazon, and don’t have a clue as to what I ordered just last week…it’s like Christmas all the time! LOL
I have an Oilskin coat, and yes, they are waterproof, although sometimes you have to touch up the seams. Generally they are cotton and are NOT oiled, but waxed. The drover coats are long and full enough to cover not just me, but my Western saddle too. That’s the major benefit. Mine has oiled fabric strips that fasten around your legs so that the coat does not whip away from your legs or saddle in the wind.
The drawbacks to such a coat? Well, it gets stiffer as it gets colder. And if you hang it in a dusty stable, it is a big pain to get all the dust off it.
I have, however, seen them on city slickers, for whom “cowboy” is couture – never been anywhere near a horse, or dust for that matter.
It is a great raincoat!
Hey, can you get the junonia ad back on your site? I finally finished shopping, but I can’t click from your site…
