Ok, concedo; the world is nuts

Reading the news today, I feel a little like Roberto Duran, blocking the blows and shouting, “no mas, no mas!”

Let’s start here:

Pop’s parents, both 24, made a decision when their baby was born to keep Pop’s sex a secret. Aside from a select few…nobody knows Pop’s gender; if anyone enquires, Pop’s parents simply say they don’t disclose this information.

In an interview with newspaper Svenska Dagbladet in March, the parents were quoted saying their decision was rooted in the feminist philosophy that gender is a social construction. …

Pop’s wardrobe includes everything from dresses to trousers and Pop’s hairstyle changes on a regular basis. And Pop usually decides how Pop is going to dress on a given morning…Pop’s parents never use personal pronouns when referring to the child — they just say Pop.

“I believe that the self-confidence and personality that Pop has shaped will remain for a lifetime,” said Pop’s mother.

Because, you know, no one who actually has allowed their gender to be “constructed” has managed to garner self-confidence, and their personalities have not remained for their lifetimes…or something. And where could I have gotten the idea that our sex is a gift and a plan, and not some random piece of chaos, anyway? Silly me.

Meanwhile, a new study at Texas A&M dares to be shocking and almost avant-garde: A new study by researchers at Texas A&M University suggests that little boys are hardwired to prefer toy trucks, while girls have innate preferences for dolls — and all of this apart from social conditioning.

How Establishment! How Bourgeois! Just like that awful Disney company who preaches heteronormativity. People should be allowed to be who they are; I wholly endorse that. But must male and female unions be reconfigured in the process?

Short pieces of evidence that world is nuts because people believe what they want, instead of what is actually, you know…hard, fast fact:

Shorter Barack Obama, carbon czar: If you’re a Democrat who voted against against heinous cap-n-tax bill, you’re a sensitive plant needing water, air and love, and if you’re a Republican who voted against it, you’re the most evil, backward beast in nature.

Shorter Paul “Can’t have too much Chutzpah” Krugman: If you don’t like the cap-n-tax bill you’re committing treason against the planet. Can’t we send him off to settle and colonize Neptune, or something, then? Along with all the jobs that are not going to be “created or saved” thanks to this legislation?

Doing many things poorly means no one can keep track of anything.

Shorter Barack Obama, International Statesman: We cannot meddle in affairs of huddled masses yearning to be free, but we must meddle in affairs of huddled despots yearning to remain in office illegally.

Shorter Interesting Aside: US withdraws from Iraqi cities despite violence; It’s all Obama’s now.

Shorter Barack Obama, Prof. of Constitutional Law: Indefinite detention is only a heinous warcrime and human rights violation when Bush does it.

Shorter Mainstream Media on Presidential Honesty: Bush believed the intel he and Clinton both had lied, Obama’s White House roils with rank dishonesty never lies

Shorter Mainstream Media on Political Parties: If you are a corrupt Democrat who profited from our economic woe, you’re just a guy in Congress. If you’re a Republican who did the same thing, you’re “a Republican from Florida”, or wherever.

Shorter Mainstream Media on Race: White America didn’t listen to any music from African American artists until Michael Jackson broke some barrier. Growing up in my house we listened to Miss Ella Fitzgerald, Ethel Waters, The Supremes, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, Billie Holliday, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Leontyne Price, Joe Williams, The Temptations, James Brown and the Mighty Clouds of Joy; bought all their records and reel-to-reel tapes, but yeah…stupid White America was racist and only had its conscience raised by the African American who adopted or fathered, or sponsored blonde, Euro-American children.

Shorter Mainstream Media is Corrupt Rant: But Michael Jackson -unlike the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court- was not accused by the far-left of being a gay nazi because of his blonde, adopted children, and the NY Times never tried to unseal any adoption paperwork on him. (You forgot all that, didn’t you, that the NY Times tried to unseal the adoption records of Chief Justice Roberts? Of course you did. I remember it. I remember everything. I just forget to put it in the harddrive.

Interesting aside, given the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor: You can no longer find any primary-source evidence via Google or Yahoo that the NY Times muckraked Bush’s Supreme Court Nominee to that extent. It’s gone. It never happened in history. The excesses of the left, concerning the nominations of both Roberts and Alito are down the memory hole, while the reasonable questions about Sonia Sotomayor’s actual fitness for the SCOTUS (is she really “the very best” person for the job, and why are so many of her rulings overturned on appeal?) are called “mean” and “hate” and “racism” and “misogyny” and you know…all the rest.

You can find however, find all the usual nasty, mean-spirited left-wing discussions about how Roberts was “a closet queer” and his wife “a beard” and his children “little aryans” via the internet search engines. I won’t link to those sites, but you can figure it out; all the usual “tolerant” suspects.

Bruce Kessler: Don’t give me any damn facts Or Suppressed information or debunkings.

Shorter Obamacare: It’s not really that expensive, or it wouldn’t be if we didn’t have to actually treat all those sick people! Expect to see the pop-culturisation of suicide philanthropic refusal of medical treatment (for the planet! And the children!) coming to a video/play/novel/movie/pop-up book near you!

Aside: Top Ten Urgent Reasons for Obamacare based on…falsities.

Shorter HopenChange: It’s only cronyism if Bush does it

Shorter revised economic report: Down 5.5%, did you hear Michael Jackson died?

Shorter Who is President Obama, Really?: An African Colonial?, oh hell, why not.

Shorter “Big Mama”: Not a Roman Catholic, but too much more fun to believe he is, when you hate.

Shorter last lie:
You can show the weak horse, and never get attacked.

The next BIG STORY the MSM will probably ignore is the EPA report the White House tried to squelch–that there is no global warming. That in the last 11 years the trend is downward.
After years of being called loons and Neanderthals for using our common sense on this issue–it will be interesting to see if they hang Gore out to dry.
Some of us were skeptical because of serious rational thinking. First, history proves that the planet on its own has its temperature ups and downs and second we are old enough (though Obama isn’t apparently) to remember the time 3 or 4 decades ago when the media went hysterical over purported global COOLING.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pop’s parents read Lois Gould’s short story “X: A Fabulous Child’s Story” in school. I’m their age and I was assigned to read it on two occasions in public school–in the U.S., though, not Sweden. In short, it’s a feminist tract about fictional parents pulling a “Pop,” except their child is known as “X.”

You know, all these gender researchers could save themselves a lot of money by doing a study of the growing number of transsexuals. Just ask them when they knew what sex they were supposed to be…

Actually the Dutch have done such a study. The answer is smething like 5. I saw it many years ago, I’m not sure that’s the exact number; but, its far younger than puberty.

It is a mad mad world and it is getting madder by the minute!
Faith and reason are twin companions When humanity loses faith in God and turn to false gods to fill the inevitable void irrationality and madness take over.
We seem to have entered a period now where wrong is labelled right or a “right” and right is labelled an assault on another’s rights. It has become a topsy turvey world a sinister Wonderland and the devil is smiling like the Cheshire cat!

I can’t find the post you mentioned it in, but on your recommendation my husband and I watched Network. It is amazing – not to mention a bit scary – how far down that prophetic road we’ve traveled as a society.

The world is mad, but I don’t think it’s “going” mad. It’s always been a bit mad, made less mad by Christians when we weren’t in a post-Christian world. But now that we are post-Christian (or pre-resurgence of the Church?), it’s coming back with a vengeance.

You mentioned another film to watch (I think it was The Lives of Others), which I also popped onto my Netflix list ASAP. I can’t put them too close together, though, lest I get in a funk over it.

I thank you so much for your phenomenal commentary, as well as your recommendations on movies and Liquid Crack. I’m now getting my entire family hooked on that, by the way. Gave it away as goodies at Little Girl’s First Holy Communion.

Oh yeah – ole Scratch is having a great time. I’m watching for the smiting to begin and I’m taking bets on D.C. as the locale for the first strike. Any takers?

Forgive me if I’m repeating a link, Anchoress, but I think VDH explains all of the above with his “noble lie” thesis:

And as for Big Mama – there’s an example of the breaking of the 3rd commandment (your 4th rule): You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

Take note Big Mama – God says He can forgive you for being a gay drag queen – just not for calling yourself a priest.

  • Laura

Thanks Anchoress! I needed to laugh, otherwise I’d be crying – again.
Well, now’s the time to pray like never before; we’ll all really need our little lights in the inky blackness out there.
Let’s see, hasn’t the UN in its wisdom deemed that there are six sexes in existence. Only Neanderthals stop at the obvious state of the plumbing…sheesh, so unsophistocated!
Finally, has the Alaskan ice sculpture dedicated to Gore (posed shivering) melted yet?
I’m going back to pray now.
    God bless,
    Laura

I wondered if little Pop was born with both sets of genitalia and the parents were unsure of the child’s sex. I have some friends who experienced this and they chose to raise the child as a girls and later it was very apparent the child was a boy…very difficult situation.

I certainly hope Pop’s parents went the extra mile to completely disguise their own gender identities so Pop doesn’t grow up believing he/she has a mommy and a daddy that (horrors) he/she can tell apart.

What kind of example would that set?

And hopefully they alerted the grandparents and neighbors and teachers and…

Wait. I guess all that matters is what Pop sees when he/she looks in the mirror, right?

Yesterday, a manager who had been laid off after Eliot Spitzer’s reaming of the insurance industry, was laid off again having returned to the company less than two years ago. Today is the last day for another woman who has worked with the utmost dedication for more than 15 years. She just found out that she has liver cancer. People are disappearing every day and there are no raises for those of us who remain. In fact, our work hours have been increased. The reciprocal loyalty that used to exist between employer and employee is disappearing. We’re seeing the complete destruction of the American way of life and it’s very, very scary…

I am utterly certain that little boys are hardwired to prefer toy trucks. When you watch your seven month old son, who has just learned to sit up by himself, move a block about and make raspberries (motor noises), you just know.

As I said with both my boys, I think even Neanderthal boys moved rocks around and made raspberries while doing it…

  • Joe Odegaard

Of course we like little toy trucks, and cars too.
Vroom Vroom, I wish I had a Ferrari.

The copper Lamborghini we saw on the way to a family event this weekend. So sorry to see it was on an interstate in Illinois. It belonged on the Autobahn.

and the two cherry red ’62 ‘vettes. One being driven, one being towed (on a flat trailer behind a pickup). Beauties.

Pop’s parents can’t even keep their lack-of-gender-roles straight. Dressing a child in dresses reinforces a feminine stereotype, regardless of the child’s actual sex. This just proves a point I have long held–”unisex” and “androgynous” are both synonyms for “girlish”. If Pop is a boy, they are dressing him as a girl. If she is a girl, then they are still dressing her as a girl. How is this “liberating” the child from gender expectations?

The only thing that Pop’s parents are ensuring is a childhood hell of mockery and playground beatings.

  • Joe Odegaard

Lamborghinis, being of Italian manufacture, belong on the “autostrada”.

  • http://musing-minds.com kimsch

You are correct sir. I have driven on the Autobahn and was unaware of the Autostrada…

Lamborghini on Chicago area interstates during construction season, what a waste…

  • Joe Odegaard

And of course, the “Mille Miglia” was driven on streets!

  • http://musing-minds.com kimsch

Joe, but the streets were cleared of traffic for Grand Prix and other street races…

    Chicago. Construction. Parking lots.

Jonathan beat me to it; I also read “X”. X was a girl, as I recall.

If the parents were concerned about their child being limited by gender bias, a simpler way to raise their child would be to expose her/him to a wide range of activities and let the child find his/her own strengths. But that’s probably my Christian bias: One’s sex is a God-given gift, not based on wardrobe and props. Your talents are a separate gift, not limited by your sex.

I’ve often wondered if parents from lower-income homes do a better job of letting kids explore their talents, out of necessity; e.g. men who cook and sew, women who fix cars and know how to use chainsaws and other powertools. If you have enough money to replace a radio when your kid breaks it, you’re apt to replace it instead of letting the kid try to fix it.

“White America didn’t listen to any music from African American artists until Michael Jackson broke some barrier. ”

Hmmm… I wonder why my dad had all those 38s of “The Ink Spots” then? Surely not to listen to! (BTW, those records are from the 1940′s. They pre-date me, anyway!)

As for gender differences… Having two of each, I can vouch that boys will turn almost anything that can be a gun into a gun and that girls will cram as many of their possessions as they can into a bag and carry it around. Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution into male-hunter/female-gather roles will not be denied!

Since quite a number of years Europe has been going mad.
However, I always took comfort in the thought, that the USA would never take the European path.
Now, as you can imagine, I am so disappointed and also very worried!
Before, to me, the Europeans seemed to be just the mad part of the Western World. But now, the WHOLE Western World is going mad.
This means, there is no hope left.
How terrible is this for the world as a whole!
