Actually it didn’t need wild horses to drag me away from the blog, this weekend. The usual family obligations managed that, but Wild Horses can’t drag me away from this terrific recording of Susan Boyle singing the Rolling Stone’s classic. It’s goose-bump-inducingly lovely. Color me impressed.
Deacon Greg says it’s the first cut from Susan Boyle’s new album. Can’t wait to hear more. Outside of Chris Daughtry’s first album, I haven’t purchased anything from artists discovered on these talent shows. This one, I might purchase, as well.

Wow.
Reminds me oddly of Mazzy Star’s cover. A better arrangement, I think, here.
Miss Boyle really seems to have a wonderful sensitivity to lyrics with a painful undercurrent. She is an artist, to be sure. I hope the entertainment industry does not chew her up and spit her out.
Anchoress,
Did you ever hear her cut of Cry Me A River thats on Youtube? She did it for a charity cd back in 1999. I think its spectacular and I hope she does a version of it for her debut album. I also love this-never a Stones fan- but Susanknows how to sing a song and her voice is just so lovely.
I heard this song yesterday and I thought it was breathtakingly beautiful. I’m definitely buying her album.
Wow. A great cover.
That really showcases her voice. I watch “American Idol” with my kids, and it amazes me how the winners have such great voices, and then the producers have them put out albums of bland songs that anyone could sing. Jordan Sparks, for example, is marvelous — but her album!!!!! Talk about boring. Melinda Dolittle’s album at least showcased her voice, but I don’t much care for the genre and I wouldn’t want to listen to it very many times.
What cminor said: wow.
She has the voice of a much younger woman in this cut. I don’t know if this is a remastered version of something she recorded when younger, or whether she really has kept her voice preserved that well.
But it wouldn’t startle me if she has. I remember when she first sang on the show, her voice sounded young; and the recordings from when she was young sounded younger than she was back then! Some people just treat their instruments nicer than the rest of us.
Do you know when her album is going to be released? Or was it released already?
Because, pardon me, She Rocks! I’m buying me a copy!
Hi Newton,
Her album will be released Nov. 24-she’s going to be performing on America’s Got Talent this Wednesday night-performing Wild Horses. She landed in L.A. last Saturday. Yes, I am a fan.

My wife and I loved the voice of this lady, Susan Boyle. How glad we are that she has landed on her feet.
Boyle’s voice has a lot of character, but I dislike the reverb; a little might have gone a long way, but here it just sounds like an affectation, a studio trick mechanically substituted for real trills.
I’m afraid I don’t care much for the production either, which too my taste is sounds all too precious and Disneyfied. Charlie Watts’ drums provide drama and narrative momentum in the original version, and Mick’s voice doesn’t sound doctored. By comparison their version sounds natural and direct, this one mannered and artificially inflated.
Still, if I put all this out of mind and just listen to her voice, I’m enchanted.
It’s a nice rendition. I’m really curious what other songs she will perform on the cd.
