It’s one of my favorite solemnities and one of my favorite litanies — let’s pray it together with my podcast!:

*after each invocation, respond with “have mercy on us.”

Christ, hear us
Christ, graciously hear us.

V. Jesus, meek and humble of heart.
R. Make our hearts like to yours

Let us pray;
Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of your most beloved Son and upon the praises and satisfaction which He offers You in the name of sinners; and to those who implore Your mercy, in Your great goodness, grant forgiveness in the name of the same Jesus Christ, You Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen.

This is a pretty wonderful book of meditations on the Heart of Christ. I gave it as a gift to a young nun who took the Sacred Heart as her title, and she was so pleased with it!

    I’ve always thought that calling the Heart of Jesus the “abyss” of virtues such a strange turn of phrase. It’s like lovingly calling Him “pit of wonderful things.” (No blasphemy intended!)

    Elizabeth — many a time in the 18 months I was taking care of my dad while he recovered from major heart surgery, did I click on your recording of this litany (I had it as a favorite for easy access) — your voice steeled me and calmed me. May it have the same effect upon others.
    Happy ending — my dad completely recovered and I’m back to my regular life again!
