Congress of Lucy and Charlie Brown

I had a conversation today, with a young adult in my family, a sweet-natured, gentle and very moral person with a highly functioning brain, who still favors free markets and a strong military, but has adopted some socialist leanings, nonetheless. We have many interesting and loud discussions about health care and global warming. Neither of us has ever managed to convince the other of anything, but we do argue respectfully, and we know when not to engage the other. This person wandered over … [Read more...]

Why is Obama still going to Copenhagen?

Honestly, for a brief moment, I entertained the notion that maybe, just maybe, Obama was going to spend the time and money necessary to go over the Carbonhagen - oops, - Copenhagen in order to surprise us and do something dramatic, like denounce the bastardization of scientific method in order to advance a political agenda. Think of it. The "whole world" of true believers, who are completely in denial -almost "Orwellian" denial- about how badly their "settled science" has been wounded, gather … [Read more...]

Democrats Channel Rhett Butler

For some reason, even though we did not host Thanksgiving here, and none of us overdid during the day (I even convinced my MIL to eliminate the pasta course) yesterday most of us around here were like zombies, unable to do much more than grunt at each other and read or nap. In the later part of the afternoon, Buster convinced me to go out for a cup of coffee and a game of chess, but the fact that I beat him tells you that even he was not in his proper head. Zombieland was leftovers, books, … [Read more...]

Palin Press: Putzes in Print

Love Sarah Palin or not, one has to admit the press is so undone by her that they are both aggressive and passive-aggressive in their hate, and they betray themselves continually in all sorts of ways. They betray their snobbism; they betray their spitefulness, and most emphatically, they betray the fact that our "fourth estate" is populated mostly by perpetual adolescents. Our press, with a few exceptions, is largely made up of people who, at age 14, decided they were sophisticates who knew … [Read more...]

Driscoll vs NY Times & other fun things

This is really very good. Head over to Pajamas Media and take a look at Ed Driscoll laying out how hap-hap-happy the NY Times has always been to celebrate the state, and statism. I do love to see alternative media bite the ankles of the media establishment, particularly these days, when a paper like the Washington Post can publish something as lazy, cliche-ridden and vapid as this so-called "review" call it "journalism." But I'm just in a cranky mood about that execrable "review" and the fact … [Read more...]

Obama, KSM Open Thread

Okay, you guys all seem to want to talk about it, and I am really tied up elsewhere, so I'll do something I don't think I've ever done and leave an open thread - you can yell and shout about this all you want, but I ask you simply keep to the basic comment guidelines. A few links about this, if you haven't seen them: James Taranto: Obama's Show Trials The Boyz at HillBuzz who made an extraordinary apology to President Bush the other day, are rip-roaring mad about this, and are shouting … [Read more...]

Bang, Zoom! And other questions

Mark Shea, utterly disgusted with the press, and offended by the rank "truthiness" by which they and the government prefer to run, unleashes the dogs of hell: One thing you can give our media Chattering Classes: They are utterly consistent. After Major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on a roomful of defenseless people in Fort Hood, it was absolutely assured that we would immediately be told that this outrage had nothing to do with his Islamic faith and that it was not an act of terror. Then, as … [Read more...]

The 'Shut up' President Blames & Aims -UPDATED

On Drudge right now, the question Who To Blame for the massacre at Fort Hood? It was just so much easier when everything could automatically be blamed on Bush, wasn't it? Though I don't doubt we'll see Obamites and Media Minions try to blame Bush for Major Malik Hasan, in any way they possibly can. The guy to blame, of course, is the non-talking Major Malik Hasan, who should not be coddled. This White House has had a field day blaming Bush for everything they couldn't blame on the GOP, or … [Read more...]

Hyperactive Television: USELESS

I'm trying to watch the celebration in NY - the Yankees going down the Canyon of Heroes amid a couple million fans and a lot of shredded paper - and this is the most unsatisfying experience. Why? Because television broadcasters -and apparently whoever is directing them- have gone completely hyperactive. I want to see the parade. That's all I want to see. I don't want to see silly female reporters screaming into their microphones about "the love and positive energy" or boorish male reporters … [Read more...]

NY-23, Free Speech & the Fog -UPDATED

Read this. The internet chapter of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, a secret copyright treaty whose text Obama's administration refused to disclose due to "national security" concerns, has leaked. It's bad. ...ISPs have to cut off the Internet access of accused copyright infringers or face liability. This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living -- … [Read more...]
