While I was out being famous…

So, yesterday I was all-but-out of commission thanks to the server move and my own haplessness, but Thursday I was in Brooklyn taping the last two episodes of In the Arena. The show was only slated for ten episodes, but we squeezed out an eleventh; it ended with Lizzie and the priest (Fr. Kieran Harrington) gettin' loud in a passionate exchange on whether Catholicism is community-focused or deeply interior. Being Irish, we both rather enjoyed that noisy exchange. I'm not sure when that … [Read more...]

Don't prosecute assaults, thefts & burglaries?

Reader misogynist - who is a libertarian sort - sends this along with the note, "this is some scary stuff, right here..."Misdemeanor crimes such as assaults, thefts and burglaries will no longer be prosecuted in Contra Costa County because of budget cuts, the county's top prosecutor said Tuesday.District Attorney Robert Kochly also said that beginning May 4, his office will no longer prosecute felony drug cases involving smaller amounts of narcotics. That means anyone caught with less than a … [Read more...]

Obama sans Teleprompter: not pretty – UPDATED

According to Jake Tapper, Obama and Leno talked bowling.Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he's gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley. He bowled a 129, the president said."That's very good, Mr. President," Leno said sarcastically. It's "like the Special Olympics or something," the president said. When asked about the remark, the White House had no comment.I wonder if NBC will edit that … [Read more...]

American Leningrad – UPDATED

You'll want to read neo-neocon today. She's got quotes by Lenin and thoughts on Dostoevsky and yes, it's all relevant, relevant, relevant. The quotes from Lenin are chilling and you will be able to relate all of them to what is happening in America, today, even though President Obama insists it's not, and that he's no socialist, nope, not him! Bush was the socialist, yep, yep, yep.Bush made his mistakes, and the damn bailout in October was a biggie, but he was no deliberate socialist.A … [Read more...]

Economic Woe and Faith

I hate to sound like I'm just gratuitously picking on President Obama, but thanks in very large part to his incessant doomsaying and the very troubling sense that Tim Geithner seems clueless over at Treasury, consumer confidence hit a record low in February.Anyone surprised? No one wants to buy anything; no one wants to make a move, anywhere. Everyone is terrified and uncertain. Except, apparently, the chutzpah-filled Democrats, who are now pushing for another 400 Billion to keep the … [Read more...]

Yep, I miss Bush – UPDATED

And if that annoys anyone, that's too bad.Seems increasingly like all the "Fascist Bush" caterwauling was the usual fake, dishonest theater meant as a means to an end - the end being to destroy the hated "election stealer" and his legacy, and not much more. But you know, for someone who "did everything wrong," his policies suddenly seem wise and right to some surprising people. It's easy to campaign and criticize. It's much more difficult to govern, especially knowing that if you don't keep … [Read more...]

Scrubbing the News for Obama

Remember yesterday, I wrote:Okay, show of hands, how many of you were surprised that this story saw the light of day: Dobson students question Obama’s planYes, it was surprising to see the press report on students making negative remarks on Obama, wasn't it?So today per Instapundit:AIRBRUSHING IN THE EAST VALLEY TRIBUNE? So I linked to a story on high school students skeptical about Obama’s stimulus speech. Now the story has the same headline, but the quotes are missing, replaced by a bu … [Read more...]

Obama, Irony and the Coup – UPDATED

Well, the deed is done. In a scant four weeks we've moved from an exceptional nation to one like all the rest.I just want to point out that I said it early and often: I heard a lot of people in the media pretend contrition at “not asking enough questions in the many-months-long, UN-visits-included ‘rush to war.’” Well where are their questions in this “rush to more”?Yes, the ironies abound, as Victor Davis Hanson so ably demonstrates here:...from the fall of the Taliban in December 2001 to … [Read more...]

Obamarama Linkapalooza

Actually, the Linkfest will be coming up, but I had to share Chris Muir's great cartoon, (H/T Amused Cynic):Oh, come on, laugh! If you're not allowed to laugh at your president, then you're already not free!Check back for lots of links! Today will be a "day of continual linking" with constant updates, so keep coming back! One quick thought: If any congressional critter needs an excuse to suddenly "switch my vote in order to take a serious look at this provision, they've got it. And … [Read more...]
