Sorry so quiet – Updated

Busy times around these parts; I have a big party planned for the weekend, so I'll be in and out over here. I know, I know...there is so much to write about! And none of it feels good!UPDATE: Hopefully I can work later today, but for now let's go the cheap and easy route, ready? If this was Bush every nightly news program would lead with it and Letterman would snarl, "boy is he dumb.".It's not newsworthy under Obama, any more than it was newsworthy about Bush. But with Bush, they used … [Read more...]

Telling it straight: Must reads – UPDATED

Charles Krauthammer gets it exactly right in this piece:In these most recent 20 years -- the alleged winter of our disrespect of the Islamic world -- America did not just respect Muslims, it bled for them. It engaged in five military campaigns, every one of which involved -- and resulted in -- the liberation of a Muslim people: Bosnia, Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.The two Balkan interventions -- as well as the failed 1992-93 Somalia intervention to feed starving African Muslims (43 … [Read more...]

Obama: Yeah, Iraq war caused the hate…

Lots of people writing about Obama's interview with al-Arabiya. Some are angry that he gave his first presidential interview to a news agency outside of the US. I don't care much about that - the man's entitled to speak to whomever he wants - but some of Obama's answers seem to me just a bit disoriented or perhaps I should say purposely disorienting.Obama does not come out and say it, he merely agrees with the dishonest framing by his interviewer - video and partial transcript here:AL … [Read more...]

WaPo Bails Out Obama!

Okay, I'm sort of joking with that headline. I'm giddy and need a break from my project.To be fair, Robert J. Samuelson, whom I like, does try to take a constructively critical view to President Obama's stimulus:But in practice, the stimulus could disappoint. Parts of the House package look like a giant political slush fund, with money sprinkled to dozens of programs. There's $50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts, $200 million for the Teacher Incentive Fund and $15.6 billion … [Read more...]

Obama = Bush 3?

Oh, the headline is just there to piss some people off, but I was really shocked (and somewhat gratified) to see this bit by the Daily Show..cc_box a:hover .cc_home{background:url('') !important;}.cc_links a{color:#b9b9b9;text-decoration:none;}.cc_show a{color:#707070;text-decoration:none;}.cc_title a{color:#868686;text-decoration:none;}.cc_links a:hover{color:#67bee2;text-decoration:underline;}The Daily Show With … [Read more...]

Friday Linkaround

Quiet today. After gabbing and watching videos through the night, we put Buster on a plane headed back to school early this morning, then went to mass and - since it was offered - took the opportunity to go to confession, and then came home and promptly fell asleep until the early afternoon. Can't remember the last time I've done that. Felt kind of good, actually!So, here is a link around to stuff you may or may not be seeing elsewhere. It's a long post, but stick with it; I don't think … [Read more...]

Peggy Noonan, Roger Ebert & me

Noonan - October 2005A few weeks ago I was reading Christopher Lawford's lovely, candid and affectionate remembrance of growing up in a particular time and place with a particular family, the Kennedys, circa roughly 1950-2000. It's called "Symptoms of Withdrawal." At the end he quotes his Uncle Teddy. Christopher, Ted Kennedy and a few family members had gathered one night and were having a drink in Mr. Lawford's mother's apartment in Manhattan. Teddy was expansive. If he hadn't gone into … [Read more...]

Guns, Bailouts, Gitmo and Soap

Retreat was excellent, but I need to process it a little before I write about it.Meanwhile, a quick look around tells me I didn't miss much, newswise.Guns: Instapundit links to two pieces on increased gun sales - or the perception of it. I don't know if I buy the cause and effect. I've been contemplating buying a gun for at least two years, and it has nothing to do with politics or social issues, or the election. It's because after reading female-authored articles on training with … [Read more...]

Interesting facts & notions – UPDATED

In my email, today, One Baby, One Vote:49 Million American babies have been aborted since 1973; 25 million would have been old enough to vote in this election.Read on...I'm still on the mat but trying to get up. Check back through the day. I'll try to at least with this bit of zydeco.And, oh, yeah, did you read about the new cabinet-level offices planned under Obama? I may go buy a gun when I feel better, just on principle. Orwell was only off by 24 years.Obama is fraud … [Read more...]
