Go ahead, impeach Bush; try him

So, Dennis Kucinich has introduced articles of Impeachment against President Bush.I think he tried this once before, didn't he? (Ah, I see that was about Cheney.)The blogs are ablaze with it, of course, Fausta may have been first out of the gate, and both Thomas Lifson and Rick Moran are looking closely at Obama's remarks about trying people for "war crimes."I sort of knew this was where it was all heading two weeks ago when Couric, Gibson and Williams got together for an early morning … [Read more...]

Chesterton & Lewis warn against tyranny

G. K. Chesterton's helpful assessment of fundamental liberty. By his measure, our liberty is indeed threatened."The free man owns himself. He can damage himself with either eating or drinking; he can ruin himself with gambling. If he does he is certainly a damn fool, and he might possibly be a damned soul; but if he may not, he is not a free man any more than a dog." - Broadcast talk 6-11-35Emphasis mine. Jay at STACLU has a great quote on a similar theme:“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny e … [Read more...]

Fun Fact Friday

Ralph Peters spells out some facts:...I happen to agree with Sen. Barack Obama...the terrorists had a tenuous connection with Saddam's regime. But it's 2008, not 2003. And our next president will take office in 2009. It's today's reality that matters.* After our troops reached Baghdad, al Qaeda's leaders made a colossal strategic miscalculation and publicly declared that Iraq was now the central front in their jihad against us. Matter of record, in the enemy's own words. * Some Iraqi Sunni … [Read more...]

Obama says the strangest things…

We're still busy in the yard, so blogging will be light, and I know everyone else in the world is writing about McClellen's book (what a lovely distraction to all the good news coming out of Iraq, ain't it?) so I don't have to.But glancing through the news I did see one thing I thought was kind of weird, about Barack Obama and a remark he made. The article is mostly about how Obama is losing popularity in the states he's won, and it's worth reading, but this was the weird part:Speaking to … [Read more...]

Astrologers and scary Bush

A reader sent me this story:Forget about Tuesday's votes in Oregon and Kentucky. Barack Obama has won the Cosmic Primary and is destined to be the next president of the United States.Seven leading astrologers consulted their charts and came to the unanimous conclusion, which they shared Tuesday at the United Astrology Conference in Denver...the seven panelists shared a sense of foreboding. No kidding, did they really? I would venture to say that many, many Americans have a shared sense of … [Read more...]

The Talked-Down Economy circa 2005 – UPDATED

:::This is a repost of a piece from December of 2005, which I came across while researching this post. I reprint it here to give a little perspective on just how determinedly the press has been talking down the economy, and for how long. It's really staggering to consider.:::THERE GO 800,000 JOBS? NOT REALLY!Joseph at Straight Shot of Politics has decided that he is a consumer of news and information, while I and others like me are not so much consumers of news and informations as … [Read more...]

Satire day: What the NY Times meant to say:

On Sunday, May 18, an editorial critical of George W. Bush and his increasingly aggressive negativism was published in the NY Times. What follows is that editorial in its first draft. After nearly 8 years of what we now admit was sometimes over-the-top vilification of the man, we need to take a step back this morning, and declare a truth to the American public and most of the world: George W. Bush is not a bad man.We have rightly decried his policies; every move he has made, from not … [Read more...]

I couldn't watch this poisonous hate – UPDATED

I tried, I really tried to watch this over-the-top rant by Keith Olbermann. I couldn't do it. I kept thinking any second a fuse was going to pop out of the crown of his head and begin to sizzle and burn until his head exploded. Kaboom! He opens his mouth and all I can hear is a guy completely owned by hate, and out of control with it.I wonder if the irony is lost on Olbermann that this year he and his media co-horts (like Chris Matthews, David Schuster and others) have had to apologize … [Read more...]

Color-blind Bush, Racist Hillary? – UPDATED

Things certainly seem upside down all over, don't they? Looking over pictures of the Bush wedding this past weekend, someone commented that the Clinton's would never have had a private wedding without the press,"but if they did, they'd still make sure every story mentioned that the preacher marrying the couple was African-American. The Clinton's never, ever missed an opportunity to pander or play the race card, although in such a case, it would be seen as noble, rather than racist. But the … [Read more...]

Obama's 57 States & other lessons

Sure, it's just a goofy, clumsy mispeak that could happen to anyone. The sort of thing I ordinarily wouldn't even write about because we all misspeak. It happens.But...I dunno...I'm not a spiteful sort but it seems like there just needs to be some balance, doesn't it? If Bush had talked about visiting "57 states" we'd see it run on every channel, in an endless loop, for days on end. We'd be hearing "moron, moron, moron," etc.I don't think Obama is a moron and I would never call him that. … [Read more...]
