10 Questions WH Press Corps left unasked

From the Dept. of Everyday He Is On TV:Yesterday's O-presser was a little interesting. The White House seems to be doing what I predicted the other day; they're suggesting that the so-so Cairo speech was the impetus for the popular uprising in Iran. Funny how that worked out. When the president finally figured out what was the right side to be on, then it was the side he'd always vociferously been on, and in fact, he caused the whole thing to happen. But the Weenee diplomacy is still … [Read more...]

Condi Rice appointee kept Twitter going…

Very interesting story out of media bistro. When BayNewser heard that someone from the State Department had called Twitter to ask them to delay maintenance to allow Iranians to continue tweeting, we pictured some fusty old guy at Foggy Bottom in a rumpled Brooks Brothers suit and wayward spectacles.Imagine our surprise, then, when we learned that, instead, it was a 27-year-old whiz kid whose job is to advise the State Department on how to use social media to promote U.S. interests the Middle … [Read more...]

One of THOSE round-ups

Yes, this is going to be one of THOSE round-ups, where I clear off all my open tabs of things I just read, and pass them off to you; covering everything from my personal stuff to a video recommendation or two.Fluff: Ann Althouse is running the inevitable captioning thread on this picture. Now I am on record as finding Michelle Obama to be an attractive woman with a mostly pleasing sense of style (but dubious judgment, as in wearing $540 sneakers to a food bank). But I have to admit, my … [Read more...]

Fun Game, Oratory Page & other stuff

Fun Game: Google "Obama agrees with Bush on Plame" & count the news outlets covering it. ZERO. unless you're looking at stuff from 2005, in which case you'll find tons of articles from Time, Newsweek and the rest decrying the "outting" of a Langley desk jockey; another of those "great moral imperative" stories that seem, well, so unimportant, now that Obama is president. My New Idea: An Oratory Page. Once this promised site re-do actually happens (and a get a few projects out of the way) I … [Read more...]

There go 150,000 jobs!

I'm not entirely sure the president hasn't reached outside of the scope of his job in setting emission standards - oh, what am I talking about - Obama is the Imperial President; the scope of his job extends to any place he says it does! He can do anything he wants to; (cuz he won) and the press won't complain. If he wants to come over to your house tomorrow and inspect your pantry shelves to make sure you're getting enough vitamin C and not too much fat, they'll be championing him for it. … [Read more...]

"How They Hated Bush" & other things

Someone sent this video to me with the comment, "illustrates how the press despised Bush. How they hated him!"Well, duh. Of course they did. They spent 7 years doing their very best to make sure that everyone else hated him, too, and yes, they succeeded. Not saying Bush's own errors didn't help it along, but the non-stop (sometimes untrue, frequently unfair and almost always unwarranted and disproportionate) pounding given Bush, 24/7 by every media outlet -news, books, sitcoms, films- … [Read more...]

Dalai Lama Hearts George W. Bush

I love this piece from Jay Nordlinger, on how the Dalai Lama stunned Cambridge, Massacusetts with the news that George W. Bush is a good man, and one he loves:Audience member: “Can you give us an example of a leader we should look up to as a positive influence?”Dalai Lama (after thinking for a few seconds): “President Bush. I met him personally and liked him very much. He was honest and straightforward, and that is very important. I may not have agreed with all his policies, but I thought he … [Read more...]

Did Obama check his bow to Abdullah? – UPDATES!

Let me say right off the bat, I have never thought, as apparently many still do, that Barack Obama was a Muslim. Obama said he was a Christian, and - although it is difficult to believe he sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years and never heard him utter racist or anti-American sentiments - I tend to take people at their word, until their behavior informs me otherwise.Such is the case, here. President Obama's own behavior has me wondering.I don't like this video. Spin it any way you … [Read more...]

Workers: Embrace your mandatory volunteerism!

Comrades, I am out today, but wanted to throw a few links up.On the heels of the very interesting Mike Rowe, of "Dirty Jobs", and his thoughts on work, dignity and AIG rage, some very disturbing reading, much of it thanks to Larwyn:Every American a Volunteer: the incomprehensible legislation that is speeding through Congress and will take away your right to do or not do a thing. So much for Freedom in America, circa 2009.Obama presses for more power, less transparency. What you O-lovers … [Read more...]

A President who values the presidency

Got this from over at Ann Althouse's place:It's very moving. But what is most profoundly interesting to me is how this man - this former president - shows such obvious pride and pleasure that "four presidents" inquired after his wife's health. It tells you everything about who the man is, and how much this nation and the office of the president means to a WWII flyboy and hero, for whom America is the passionate shining light of his life. One gets the sense that even though he has been … [Read more...]
