Obama Executive Order & Interpol – UPDATED

I'm thinking that when Steve Schippert began his blog, which he calls Threats Watch, he never thought he would be tracking a threat from his own Executive Branch and Congress. Does that sound a bit out there? Yes, I worry that it does. But this Executive Order, which Obama quietly signed while the world was distracted by Tiger Woods and weather, sounds pretty out there, too: December 17, 2009, The White House released an Executive Order "Amending Executive Order 12425." It grants INTERPOL … [Read more...]

NY-23, Free Speech & the Fog -UPDATED

Read this. The internet chapter of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, a secret copyright treaty whose text Obama's administration refused to disclose due to "national security" concerns, has leaked. It's bad. ...ISPs have to cut off the Internet access of accused copyright infringers or face liability. This means that your entire family could be denied to the internet -- and hence to civic participation, health information, education, communications, and their means of earning a living -- … [Read more...]

Oh…my! Hmmm. Lovely.

Carolina Cannonball is one of my faves and The Crescat is always a fun stop. And you know, since we've been talking headcoverings on and off for the past few weeks, you will probably want to go look at her pictures of Princess Grace and Jackie Kennedy and others wearing lace mantillas because Miss Cannonball has decided that, since last week was "tonsure week", this week we'd see the women's head-coverings. But all of that is nothing to me. I don't care, I don't care. Yes, the mantillas are … [Read more...]

Your MUST READ on Healthcare

David Goldhill has done all of us a tremendous service with his 10,000 word article in The Atlantic Online. Yes, it's long, but it's thoughtful and true and something that really must be read. I had linked to it as an update, here, but decided that it really needs to be promoted, disseminated and discussed, and not relegated to an "update" that might be missed. Goldhill is a Democrat who looks at the healthcare not as a wonk or a partisan, but from the perspective of a businessman who has … [Read more...]

Sebelius cheers thugs & a GREAT photo essay

There is offensive language on this video, so if that bothers you, you are warned. To my way of thinking the physical violence is more offensive: Source: The indispensable Hot Air The day after the attack on a fellow selling buttons and "Don't Tread on Me" flags (and which immediately preceded this event), Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius held a conference call to the SEIU, during which she greeted her union "brothers and sisters" and said "keep doing what you're doing!" Culture of … [Read more...]

Obamacare: Kennedy lives; Grandma dies – UPDATED

Is Is Euthanasia Included in National ‘Health Care’ Reform? Not explicity, but you may well infer it. Found at Red State via Glenn Reynolds. Let’s back up for a minute. I noted some time ago Jay Rockefeller went on record to say that at some point the government has to decide whether or not you are allowed to receive any more medical benefits if the cost outweighs the potential benefits. This is, of course, about Obama's health care bill, which he is strenuously, if rather shrilly … [Read more...]

Our freezing summer makes me gripe

It's freezing here; we can't swim, can't have the windows open. Every day is cold. It just convinces me more than ever that solar flares (or the lack of them) have more to do with the ever-changing climate of planet earth. And more resentful of policies, programs and restrictions put in our way, in service to the hoo-hah of Mr. Gore. And why this ticks me off, too. And this. And why not, anymore? I am most seriously unhappy today. The prescient satirical genius of Paddy Chayefsky In … [Read more...]

George H.W. Bush; Birthday Appreciation

Today is the 85th Birthday of our 41st President, George H. W. Bush. I believe he's planning to celebrate with a skydive, weather and health permitting. (He did, Hot Air has the video.) I am late to appreciation of him; I was a liberal Democrat who believed he was a silly man, while he was president. I know better, now. His son, George W. Bush, the 43rd President, writes of the joy he takes in his father. One of the most striking notions in Dubya's tribute is that, because of the … [Read more...]

Obama: the Opposite of America

I had this awful feeling, a few months into Obama's presidency, that he had no wish to lead the nation, but to rule it. One of his minions (I can't remember who, sorry) had actually used the phrase "when Obama rules" prior to his inauguration, but I'd excused it as a misspeak. Now, I am not so sure. In five years of blogging, I have never called a president by anything but his name or his title. I have booted people who have tried to call past or current presidents by foul nicknames. … [Read more...]

Lileks on Letterman on Palin – UPDATED

If you have missed it, the old rule that you don't go after a politicians kids (which has been strongly, and correctly, in place under all Democrat presidents, and was even sometimes practiced about the Bush-twins) does not apply to Sarah Palin, and has never applied to Sarah Palin. You may get nagged at for observing that Michelle Obama looks like she is angry, but it's "funny pop-culture-coolness" to suggest that Sarah Palin (who is a stoopit hick, afterall) looks "like a slutty flight … [Read more...]
