“All that I hate, I am become!”

St. Paul wrote those words, grieving about his own moral state, understanding that his human weakness could bring out in him behavior he deplored in others.I have used the phrase a few times on the blog, but this time, it's my center-left L'il Bro Thom saying it, in response to this article.Last week, Sen. George Allen personally apologized to a staff member of his Democrat opponent, James Webb, for calling him a "macaca." This was the latest in a string of public apologies for what has been … [Read more...]

A campaign I think I will contribute to

Not my state, but I'm so tired of this sort of "smear over substance" politicking that it will be a satisfying donation. … [Read more...]

Yes, tax cuts do work

I don't know why the message has to be repeated, but some folks never quite get it. Tax cuts work.NRO points out that even some of Bush's harshest critics have stopped laughing. Anchoress, why aren’t you writing?

The heavily-redacted (25%) paper will likely go under-reported, just like stories of voter fraud in Wisconsin and arrests of real terrorists, planning real terror made thanks to the NSA … [Read more...]

Billy’s Good-Time Salvation Caravan is rolling!

This show has only been on the road for a few months and I'm already tiring of it.What show is that? It's the Bill Clinton is the greatest living man in the East, West, North and South dog-and-pony show that has been testing the waters for a while. Now Esquire magazine calls him The World's Most Influential Man with accompanying bill-gasm:Since leaving office, Clinton has been so active that his post-presidency amounts to "a third term" for the Democrat who held the White House from 1992 … [Read more...]

We’ll not see the like of RFK again. To our detriment.

Since I am home tending to a sick teenager today, I've had time to think, catch up with some email and chat a bit with friends. Many of the commentators in my last entry on my brother's illness left lovely thoughts, prayers and poems, and I am very thankful and moved (and quite humbled) by the generosity of these people who don't know us from Adam and yet offer comfort. Bless you. (And belated public thanks to Andrew Sullivan for his unexpected and kind linkage). One poem stood out to me - it … [Read more...]
