Limbaugh, Jeb Bush & Reagan

Was moving around this morning and picking up Rush Limbaugh in the car. He had some interesting things to say. In talking about Obama's notion of what constitutes "sacrifice," Limbaugh intoned, (I am paraphrasing) "sacrifice is only sacrifice when it is voluntary. Otherwise it is compulsion."I've been saying that for a long time. There is an enormous difference between a few dozen people voluntarily giving up their worldly goods for communal living, and forcing people to participate in … [Read more...]

Palin a news Powerhouse

I feel like I am drowning in news, there is so much of it. I had not planned to, but I am going to - in the face of all of this news - continue the Insta-pundity format I used yesterday, which helps make things more readable, I think. What do you think? Please let a comment and tell me if you hate it or like it.Oh, what did "I" think of the speech? I thought she was actually "better" (not by much) on Friday - a little more relaxed. But after the six day baptism of nukes that she'd endured, … [Read more...]

Running Sarah Palin Thread of Hate & Doooom!

I'm liveblogging the RNC convention and the Giuliani/Palin speeches hereRegarding Gov. Sarah Palin, the press and the Angry Left remind me of those beetles in the film The Mummy - the pass over something in a swarm and it is destroyed and stripped bare...we must be reaching the climax of Palinsanity, or will do so tonight, because I don't see how this intense, unhinged hate can go much further. But haters always manage to surprise me...There is so much out there that this is going to be a … [Read more...]

Gov. Palin's "muscular world of action…"

In an email, Steve Schippert of Threatswatch sent this piece by Victor Davis Hanson, on Why We Like Palin So Much - I personally think much of it is due to her authenticity - but I liked the whole piece and was taken with this excerpt:If she can beat off the frothing Newsweek/MSNBC/New York Times inbred rabid wolves, and do it with the grace she has shown so far, she will fill a deep yearning among Americans for someone like her...So apparently they are eager to see a rare politician who is … [Read more...]

Reluctantly blogging the convention – UPDATED

As regular readers know, I watch very little-to nothing by way of tv news, unless it's breaking, but I thought I'd watch a bit of the convention tonight. I'm still going to try. But honestly, after flipping from cable channel to cable channel and discovering I just couldn't abide any of those people, not on CNN, not on MSNBC (I used to like Matthews, but my GAWD he looks and sounds like a damn crank, anymore), not on FOX.Tossing the remote I bellowed, "Isn't there anyone I actually want to … [Read more...]

You can't have two old 'sick' guys on a ticket

Over at PJM Jennifer Rubin looks at the question of John McCain's running mate.McCain's campaign is so woefully uncharismatic against the exotica of Obama, that he'd better pick someone with a little dazzle to her.Yes, her. Take a hint. As I've said before, two boring white guys will not do the trick - it is the Fade Into the Background Ticket From Hell. And I see a lot of people commenting that they want Fred Thompson on the ticket. Hello? Two old white guys with histories of cancer? … [Read more...]

Your Afternoon Chesterton

Yes, I'm on a kick, but don't stop me - this stuff is good for us."Idolatry is committed, not merely by setting up false gods, but also by setting up false devils; by making men afraid of war or alcohol, or economic law, when they should be afraid of spiritual corruption and cowardice." - G. K. Chesterton, Illustrated London News 9/11/09 … [Read more...]

Is Limbaugh subverting a sacred trust?

Cobb is saying Rush Limbaugh has crossed a line with Operation Chaos, and he even has a cartoon up about it.My take on "Operation Chaos" is that Rush is doing several things, here - he's demonstrating his sway, he's enjoying making mischief (and hoping that when the press talks about "Hillary winning and demonstrating momentum" they'll mention his "Operation,") and he's getting a feel for just how strong may be the desire of conservatives to -- not now, but in coming years -- jump the GOP ship … [Read more...]

NOW let's start using those straw polls!

I did not see last night's debate, and for once I wish I had - it sounds like it was a hummer I'll have to find the video. Mainstream Media coverage of the thing seems much lighter than it has been.Gateway has a good quick recap. Flopping Aces has one, too and a new site design. Many seem to agree that Thompson is finally coming into his own. This video is certainly instructive. The word "woodshed" comes to mind:I've been wailing for a while that the process started "too soon, too … [Read more...]
