The Leadership Void; we need St. Benedict

Deacon Greg sent this my way, noting, "this is extraordinary, and the piece mentions you, too!"Such a star, I am!What is "extraordinary" is the lengthy post Boston's Cardinal Sean O'Malley put up in his blog, addressing the criticism he has received for presiding (in a very minimalist way, it must be said) at the Funeral Mass of Sen. Ted Kennedy. For the record, I wasn't one of those suggesting Kennedy should not have a Catholic funeral; my gripe was with the sanctification of the man … [Read more...]

Obamacare & the Insistent Vector of Love -UPDATED

When Sarah Palin talked about the “death panel” provisions residing within the Obamacare bill she was excoriated in the press and by the left for her inelegant and un-nuanced language, and –because she is the left’s Emmanuel Goldstein-in-training – for also being stupid and wrong, and a hick.Meanwhile, the Senate Finance Committee quietly scrapped the provision to which Palin was referring. No, the words “death panel” had never existed in the bill, but Palin neatly identified the inevitable tr … [Read more...]

The Pinnacle: slim, sharp & lonely

Catching up on all the stories since I have been away and I must have missed this one when it broke - the header: Democrat: Republicans hate ObamaCare because they’re racists. Also, Castro’s a genius. The Democrat is Rep. Diane Watson (D-California). Watson is both African-American and female, so she is speaking from the fake ledge of "absolute moral authority" which was once the province of Cindy Sheehan until she stopped being a useful bat for to beat around the Bush, with. From Watson's led … [Read more...]

"The stuff priests are made of…" UPDATED

Wow, a great photo via the Crescat, who recounts the story she found here and marvels at "the stuff priests are made of":4 June 1962. Navy chaplain Luis Padillo was giving last rites to dying soldiers as sniper fire surrounded him. A wounded soldier pulled himself up by clinging to the priest’s cassock, as bullets chewed up the concrete around them. Hector Rondón Lovera, who had to lie flat to avoid getting shot, later said that he was unsure how he managed to take this picture. [See all pi … [Read more...]

Do you say "the" or "thee" – UPDATES!

Growing up, I was taught that when you are following the word T-H-E with a word that begins with a vowel, then the correct (and, to my ear) more pleasant pronunciation was "thee" - long e.As in "please don't feed thee animals." One would never say, "please don't feed thuh animals."I notice an increasing trend the other way, though. Even in the video of Miss California, below, I note it.I hear it on television and in my own family. My sister recently talked about "theh old people." … [Read more...]

Prejean; cautionary tale for Christians – UPDATED

Good for her. In America, we should not be watching a person endure character assassination and the possible loss of livelihood because she has committed the sin of daring to hold a "politically incorrect" position. Carrie Prejean was asked a question and she answered it. In America, once upon a time, the people who referred to themselves as "liberal" believed that one was entitled to one's opinion and to full respect for it. Currently in America, every diversity is celebrated except the … [Read more...]

From Vagina to Vitae

Regular readers are aware that I once wrote a post entitled Labia's Up; Vagina Gazing Season is Open.It is evidence of my own naivete that I created that title without ever once considering the shock-effect it would have on people using google to search for something very different than a rant about The Vagina Monologues. As I have written, I have loud issues with that insipid play and so my warrior vagina and I have done battle against it, when we were not quasi-sneering at Vagina Health … [Read more...]

The word of the week is "crazy" – UPDATED

UPDATE: Please note, I had a copy of the projected deficit chart which you can see here included with this piece, but it apparently violated my photohost's terms of use.So the Journolist or whoever it is who co-ordinates the narratives for the Mainstream Media, seem to have settled on the word "crazy," and "insane," to describe people who are not "moderates," like them.If you do not like this chart and think something should be done about it, you are "crazy"From the LA Times: … [Read more...]

Obama & Co Theater: Chaos & Cajolery UPDATED

Okay, so...60 days into this new presidency, it looks to me like we're going to spend the next four years watching a non-stop play of infinite acts. With none of the wit or wisdom of Pride & Prejudice, Obama and Company are going to treat us to Chaos & Cajolery.Basically, the theater production is 137 acts (presented without intermission) of Barack Obama and/or any one of his supporting players (from the veep, the speaker, the secstate, the sectreas and on down to the lowly press … [Read more...]

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. -- The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of AmericaWell, here we are.As I wrote in the comments section, here, back in 2006:I have no doubt that within the next few decades that will find … [Read more...]
