Advice: In Hard Times, "Give More" – UPDATED

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." -- … [Read more...]

Go ahead, impeach Bush; try him

So, Dennis Kucinich has introduced articles of Impeachment against President Bush.I think he tried this once before, didn't he? (Ah, I see that was about Cheney.)The blogs are ablaze with it, of course, Fausta may have been first out of the gate, and both Thomas Lifson and Rick Moran are looking closely at Obama's remarks about trying people for "war crimes."I sort of knew this was where it was all heading two weeks ago when Couric, Gibson and Williams got together for an early … [Read more...]

Benedict: The Last 20th Century Man: UPDATED

:::SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE:::It seems almost silly to say I am bringing coverage of Benedict XVI's extraordinary sojourn in America to a close (actually, my final final thoughts are here) because the truth is I will likely be reading all of his addresses more closely and bringing them up in coming weeks, but the wall-to-wall writing will end here. I do want, though, to end with a thought that blipped through my head when Benedict was in DC, and again as he addressed the United … [Read more...]

Deconstructing Christianity, Itself – UPDATED

Regular readers know I am not one of those easily offended types who get a case of the vapors at every salvo blasted at Christianity or the Christ or his Blessed Mother.I figure Christianity - if it is true, and it is - can stand up to the slings and arrows of the world, Mary has her own way of dealing with anyone stupid enough to disrespect her (hint - she hounds you with love until you give in) and Jesus has the big shoulders that are required to carry the cross or move the world, so he … [Read more...]

Hillary disenfranchising? Press does not care.

In Michigan yesterday, Hillary "won" by having her opponents basically thrown off the ballot (a move Barack Obama - it must be said - had used to his advantage earlier in his career).Seems to me Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama are "of a piece" in their willingness to do anything, no matter how underhanded, to get what they want. It would not surprise me at all to see a Hillary/Obama ticket being talked up down the road, and my that would be interesting to watch. Can you imagine these two … [Read more...]

Bush dances with free people; Albright danced with Kim Jong Il

It's been fun to watch the videos and read the accounts of President Bush's trip to Georgia. I know that for those who do not like him, who - let's face it - hate him, there is nothing charming in these pictures or videos, and his speech sounds like nothing particularly remarkable.People who have lived in freedom their whole lives and do not even realize how their own liberties are being undermined look at President Bush and see...well, I don't know what they see.A swaggering cowboy, … [Read more...]

Prod Mary; The Church Does Not Hate Women

I'm not a subscriber to TIME magazine, but a reader named Jake gave me a head's up on this week's cover story, re the increasing willingness of Protestants to regard Mary as a peculiarly outstanding sort of disciple. I know that a lot of Protestants have difficulty with Mariology - there are so many misconceptions out there about what Catholics actually believe; this is new interest in her is really promising. The Catholic Church has a treasure chest of writing and thinking regarding this woman … [Read more...]
