For so many of us, the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon has been part of our earliest memories, a steady and dependable marker in the year. I am 52 years old. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark"

My husband and I were just flipping through the channels and found the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy. It was the local portion of the show, and we didn't stay long; we'll send in our contribution this week.I believe I have contributed to this charity every Labor Day Weekend since I can remember, either by asking my parents to send in my pennies, or by volunteering at the Telethon centers, and in various fund-raising affairs. Jerry Lewis – Magnificent Bastard

Lewis is not getting an honorary Oscar for his film work - some of his stuff I love, some I can't watch, but he certainly was prolific and innovative - but at tomorrow night's Oscar festivities he'll be given the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his years and years of work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.It's certainly well-deserved, and perhaps long overdue.
