The DC Nuke & the Saving Monks

Random Thoughts is writing about what is happening to her finances. No one has defended President Bush more than I have during his time in office. No one.But his signing the "bailout bill" that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the rest of them were giddy over this afternoon - it has stunned me. I know he had to do it. I know there were no choices, here. But I am still stunned. When I heard Joe Biden talk about giving courts the power to reset mortgage principles I thought he'd simply … [Read more...]

Vespers Oct 02; The Guardian Angels

Today I have been literally bombarded with emails - so much so that I've read barely nothing in the news. One emailed question I got several times today was "are you really praying and fasting? If you are, maybe I will too..."Yes, I am. I'm praying and fasting "that wisdom and light be brought to guide our nation in this election period, and that Thy will be done..." whatever that ends up being. I was a little appalled to get one missive from a lady who said she was Christian but was … [Read more...]

Morning Prayer October 01

Sorry to say there are a few small mistakes in this podcast, the most glaring of which is that I said I would provide the page directives and read the small bio of St. Therese in the breviary and then proceeded to accidentally cut all of that out during the edit, also, I am dealing with a sore throat and choked my way through the third psalm...apologies.Here's the podcast for morning prayer. While this is the feastday of Therese of Lisieux, we're not praying the Office of Virgins or the … [Read more...]

Vespers for Sept 30

Wow, this was kind of a fun Office, tonight, on this feast of the curmudgeonly St. Jerome - the psalms really spoke to the day, even down to the prayer for our legislators in the final intercessions. The podcast is here, and it contains all the page directives for the Breviary. As usual I'm using the breviary shown below; I love the translations, and this is the most commonly used of the breviaries for the Liturgy of the Hours.Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, another Doctor … [Read more...]

Compline for Monday Night; No Chant

And finally, the last podcast; here is Compline for Monday Night.I have linked to the whole week's recordings of Compline, to make it easier for those who wish to use them every night, and I have set up a sidebar button for easy access; look for the illuminated sheet music (under the scriptorium button) for Compline and also for the Office for the Dead for 9/11, which people seem to download a lot.As ever, you can also avail yourself of a live-feed Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, … [Read more...]

On the Bailout: It's okay to pray for wisdom

On the bailout which Washington is putting together to keep our economy from unthinkable ruin, I would venture to suggest that prayer is not just okay, it is imperative - particularly given the recent and clear revelation that both houses of congress are mostly populated with sad clowns incapable of putting partisanship aside - that those of us who pray consider turning to prayer (and perhaps even fasting) that our current governmental leadership be giving the thing that Solomon had and which so … [Read more...]
