Our freezing summer makes me gripe

It's freezing here; we can't swim, can't have the windows open. Every day is cold. It just convinces me more than ever that solar flares (or the lack of them) have more to do with the ever-changing climate of planet earth. And more resentful of policies, programs and restrictions put in our way, in service to the hoo-hah of Mr. Gore. And why this ticks me off, too. And this. And why not, anymore? I am most seriously unhappy today. The prescient satirical genius of Paddy Chayefsky In … [Read more...]

Lolcat Obama & Mustache: Hussein-alicious!

Barack Obama; Dreams of his Mustache Barack Obama continues to slowly reveal himself to the people he has been elected to serve. He told us something about himself when he put the murder of an abortionist over the murder of one of his soldiers. The death of the abortionist was immediately condemned with a security deployment ordered. It took days upon days for the death of his soldier, at the hands of a convert-to-Islam intent on mayhem, to be acknowledged with the release of a woefully … [Read more...]

Podcast; Morning Prayer May 13, Our Lady of Fatima

I hadn't realized it until I went to morning mass, but today is the feastday of Our Lady of Fatima, and the anniversary of the assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. So, here is Morning Prayer, using the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary. A little late for the Eastern Seaboard, but perhaps useful to those west of whatever. You knew I had to do this for Fatima, right? After all, those Portuguese children did nag me into podcasting all four mysteries of the Holy Rosary! Related: Thoughts … [Read more...]

"Make it stop…"

If you have never seen it, and I am betting you have not, do yourself a favor and rent a copy of Big Trouble. Released too soon after 9/11-when America had no patience for stories with naked cops running through airports while nuclear suitcases were being smuggled through airport security ("it's a garbage disposal...")-the film (which is based on the book by Dave Barry) deserves to be seen. It's irreverent. It's ineptly violent. It has goats on runways. It's glorious. And at the very end, … [Read more...]

DHS documents picking a fight? UPDATED

Boy, I don't like that header, and hope it won't come to that, but who knows anymore? I really did not want to get back into politics so soon - I have other things on my mind - but I'll just throw these out and you guys make your own stew. Item: Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. “I believe that our federal government has become oppressive … [Read more...]

American Leningrad – UPDATED

You'll want to read neo-neocon today. She's got quotes by Lenin and thoughts on Dostoevsky and yes, it's all relevant, relevant, relevant. The quotes from Lenin are chilling and you will be able to relate all of them to what is happening in America, today, even though President Obama insists it's not, and that he's no socialist, nope, not him! Bush was the socialist, yep, yep, yep. Bush made his mistakes, and the damn bailout in October was a biggie, but he was no deliberate socialist. A … [Read more...]

Obama, Irony and the Coup – UPDATED

Well, the deed is done. In a scant four weeks we've moved from an exceptional nation to one like all the rest. I just want to point out that I said it early and often: I heard a lot of people in the media pretend contrition at “not asking enough questions in the many-months-long, UN-visits-included ‘rush to war.’” Well where are their questions in this “rush to more”? Yes, the ironies abound, as Victor Davis Hanson so ably demonstrates here: ...from the fall of the Taliban in … [Read more...]

Advice: In Hard Times, "Give More" – UPDATED

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood." -- Mark … [Read more...]

Obama: Yeah, Iraq war caused the hate…

Lots of people writing about Obama's interview with al-Arabiya. Some are angry that he gave his first presidential interview to a news agency outside of the US. I don't care much about that - the man's entitled to speak to whomever he wants - but some of Obama's answers seem to me just a bit disoriented or perhaps I should say purposely disorienting. Obama does not come out and say it, he merely agrees with the dishonest framing by his interviewer - video and partial transcript here: AL … [Read more...]

"They Do Not Love Jesus"

The child you are looking at is Namrata Nayak. Her face was disfigured when when Hindu extremists bombed her home last August, looking to kill Christians. I am struck by her power and beauty, which is transmitted through her eyes. One does not see the scars for the steadiness and fullness of Namrata Nayak's eyes. Her eyes are fearless. She is unintimidated. She looks directly at you, with a collectedness and assurance that only comes from deep interior knowledge. Namrata Nayak knows who … [Read more...]
