Housekeeping / Commercial Interruption

First, I want to shout out a big thank you to all of you who have used the Amazon search button (or any of my amazon links) to purchase goods - I'm especially grateful for whoever it was bought the Amazon Kindle, as it brought a $35 kickback to the site. What I have been doing with Amazon monies is putting 30% of the earnings into a charity (varies between the hospice which helped my brother and the Summit Nuns Capital Campaign, because our good sisters' kitchen cabinets are falling on them as … [Read more...]

Rosary Podcast: Sorrowful Mysteries

If you've ever watched Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, you'll realize you are watching the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, beginning with the Agony in the Garden. I am often asked by non-Catholics why we spend so much time pondering the Passion of the Christ, and not the Resurrection. Well, we do both - just as we, all year long and not just at Christmas, keep the mysteries of his Incarnation before us in various ways, through devotions and feast days, we ponder the mysteries of the … [Read more...]

The Rosary: The Joyful Mysteries

The Presentation of the Lord/Fra Angelico Since we talked about it yesterday: Here is a podcast of The Joyful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary: The Annunciation The Visitation The Birth of Our Lord The Presentation The Finding of our Lord in the Temple Hit the link for illustration and lessons - mostly thanks to the remarkable Deacon Greg. I'll try to record the other four mysteries before Ash Wednesday. Before each mystery, I make a very brief note of relevant scripture; literally a line - … [Read more...]

Fatima & the Rosary – UPDATE

Okay, this is a little "officially weird." I'd been playing with the idea of podcasting the 4 mysteries of the rosary, for Lent, as a help for those who wanted to pray the rosary every day and might like the company. But then my computer had problems and podcasting was out. I'd forgotten all about the idea of doing the rosary. But today - Feb 20 - all day, two things kept pounding in my head. The first was: "Make those rosary podcasts, because the rosary is our weapon..." "Weapon", I kept … [Read more...]

Experimental Podcast

I seem to have the noise problem that has prevented podcasts mostly handled, but the removal of a loveseat from my office has created a largeness that I'll have to address - possibly with an area rug. But let me know how this sounds okay? I want to be able to podcast the Liturgy of the Hours, during Lent. I chose to read this piece from 2005. The podcast is here. Perhaps I will record Vespers, real fast, if you want. Let me know. … [Read more...]

Feb 11 & St. Bernadette Soubirous

The Incorruptible Body of St. Bernadette Soubirous Fr. James Martin, author of My Life With the Saints - which I have mightily praised in these parts - has made a series of videos on some of his favorite saints, and today he gives us a very well-done look at St. Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes, who is one of my favorite saints, too. Last December, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, which is intimately connected with Bernadette, I talked about the saint in this podcast, which you … [Read more...]

Pajamas Media Bloggers go bye-bye

I was only mildly surprised to receive an email from Pajamas Media today which said, in essence, "so long, it's been good to know you, effective March 31," when PJM will end its Pajamas Media Blogger and advertising network. I sort of saw it coming. I'd noticed that PJM was tightening, creating its identity around a crew of established conservative "name" writers and the bigger bloggers, rather than the sprawling mass of bloggers. It was predictable because no entity can remain an amorphous … [Read more...]

The Deac Speaks!

Deacon Greg Kandra does a podcast interview over at America Magazine. He's got a nice voice. I'm trying to wheedle him into doing something together, but as I wrote the other day, I can't podcast again until we find some way to quiet down the computer. Since it was repaired the noise is off the charts! Go take a listen to Greg! And my stuff is over here. I really hope I can get things fixed before Lent. … [Read more...]
