Another thought on Obama's bitter gaffe

I like this ironic photo essay using Obama's "bitter" words. But it also reminds me that what Obama said wasn't that far off from Bill Clinton's trying to turn the Oklahoma City bombing into a narrative about middle Americans, incapable of thinking for themselves, being urged on to hate America by the likes of Rush Limbaugh. Both, in their way, were implying that middle-class Middle America is populated with easily-swayed, unintelligent rubes.Slightly O/T, after the OKC bombing Bill Clinton … [Read more...]

Clinton's smug mug & other superior beings

Is it just me or is Bill Clinton looking increasingly like the the smug bastard son of Boris Yeltsin?Except - I can't remember - did Yeltsin ever treat both the press and the populace which such arrogant disdain? He may have. But then again, Yeltsin was a communist with Pravda behind him; he didn't have to tell the truth or pretend to respect the intellects of his countrymen.I should just perhaps be glad that the Clinton's breathtaking disingenuity is finally becoming plain for others to … [Read more...]

Sorry so quiet

My Li'l Bro Thom had a virus last week that kept him miserable and sick for about a week - seems I have it too - there is a whole clammy, room-spinning, can-I-just- puke-now component to the thing, too. Makes the idea of sitting up and reading for more than a few minutes unpalatable. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.I did get up in the wee small hours because of a nightmare - thought I'd read a little to clear my head and ended up reading something that made me forget about nightmares.I … [Read more...]

Obama, Psychic duality & Race

Ubi CaritasWhere charity and love are, there God is. The love of Christ has gathered us into one flock. Let us exult, and in Him be joyful. Let us fear and let us love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love each other (and Him).As a young woman working in New York City, I watched a lovely, brilliant middle-aged black woman struggle to maintain her dignity and forbearance when she was told, by a youngish white woman who seemed to love her, that she - the white woman … [Read more...]

Obama's Speech, Day Two – UPDATED

:::Please scroll down for update::: I like to give people the benefit of a doubt, but I'm pretty tired, now:::Everyone and their mother has opined on Obama's speech, yesterday, and I don't have anything wise to say. I tend to agree with Tom Maguire; Obama probably did what he needed to do to assuage the Democrats, and those Independents who run center-left. As to its content and delivery, I suspect I align with Jon Podhoretz, in that the speech was both well-crafted and crafty. But I'm … [Read more...]

Obama/Wright: A Pastor is not a community

Barack Obama has made a strong statement of repudiation as regards the extreme sermonizing of his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, which has been the subject of much attention, particularly here on the internets.Spake Obama:I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue. Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of … [Read more...]

Jeremiah Wright, Steinem & Primacy of Victimhood

Okay, got lots of emails from folks decrying the "racism of Barack Obama's pastor," Jeremiah Wright, in this video.I watched the video twice, and I don't know if I'm seeing racism. I think I'm seeing anger, some of it reality-based and quite justified, some of it politically expedient for emotional manipulation, and some of it just strange."Jesus was a poor black man who lived in a country and in a culture that was controlled by rich white people [Romans rich and Italian, therefore … [Read more...]
