Palate Cleanser: Eat a Sea Kitten!

The world is nuts. The country is nuts. The government is nuts. So, Kim at Musing Minds is reminding everyone about International Eat A Tasty Animal for PETA Day. That would be this March 15.Writes Kim: With PETA’s latest lame attempt at trying to “guilt” us into becoming vegans, I think that this year’s IEATAPETA day should be devoted to “Sea Kittens” of all kinds. PETA is also trying to get schools with names like Whitefish and Spearfish to rename themselves Sea Kitten…Let’s have Fish a … [Read more...]

Got no oomph, sorry

Sorry so quiet today; I actually have a bunch of tabs all lined up of things I want to link to or talk about, but this was one of those days where the running around started early and hasn't really stopped yet. There's a lot going on - including a "project" I am seriously in need of sitting down and finishing before Lent, which will come all-too-quickly, as long as I am not ready. That's how it works, right? If you're not ready, it flies in; if you're all set and anticipating, time … [Read more...]

Those Oreo Truffles: Recipe here. In answer to an email, no they are not too rich, and yes, they taste like truffles, not Oreos. If you don't believe me, here is a note from Reader Ellen:I was intrigued enough to try it, though, and I now join the raving masses who love them! I took them to my department’s Christmas lunch today, and had multiple requests for the recipe. Next time I make them, I’m adding Grand Marnier! The Italian Rainbow Cookies: Sorry they're a little difficult to find. … [Read more...]

Repost: Brandy Alexander Pie

Reposted from almost three years ago to the day:"Can I do anything?"Have you ever said those words, without thinking? Someone gives you some bad news and you gasp and say, "Oh, no! Is there anything I can do?"You mean it when you ask it...and usually you mean, "is there anything I can do RIGHT NOW, to help?"But there is also an expectation that when you ask, "is there anything I can do?" The answer will be "thanks for asking, no, there is nothing anyone can do, but if you could keep … [Read more...]

Descending into Thanksgiving

Well, it's pedal to the metal time around here. Buster is home from college and already blowing the saxophone while his brother wrestles with a computer problem. The dog is throwing up. I still have to go shopping for a few items now that I have chosen my veggie entrees from some of the suggestions made below and at Ace's - yay, my menu is finally complete! I've added an asparagus and a green-bean dish to the list, and have decided to make Pianogirl's Incredibly Delicious Pumpkin Bread … [Read more...]

Blegging a Veggie recipe – UPDATED

My dear MIL is doing Thanksgiving, but I offered to take some of the load off her hands by making all the veggies.Only trouble is I'm sort of out of ideas. I'm making the mashed turnips w/ carrots, and the sweet potato pie, and the usual broccoli w/ garlic, (and MIL is making the artichokes because I never make them right) but I need at least two more veggies or I'll have failed in the task and let the family down.So...creamed spinach more?Any ideas for veggies out there? … [Read more...]

Cooking day…

Cooking for and entertaining 20 or so people today for a 51st anniversary. The menu sounds light - an antepaste, a connsommé, a Caesar salad, a lovely garlic/mushroom chicken breast entree served with sausage stuffing, fried cauliflower, broccoli w/almonds and pumpkin bread (you know I had to make pumpkin something) and then an anniversary cake, Italian Rainbow Cookies and other goodies for dessert. With Mystic Monk Colombian Roast, decaf Hazelnut or Espresso to finish. So, why am I so … [Read more...]
