Press coverage negative on McCain?

If this does not frighten you — regardless of your political affiliation — then you deserve what this man will deliver with both houses of Congress, a filibuster-proof Senate, and, to quote Senator Obama again, “a righteous wind at our backs.” That a man so clear in his understanding of the Constitution, and so opposed to the basic tenets it provides against tyranny and the abuse of power, can run for president of the United States is shameful enough. We’re just getting started.Bill … [Read more...]

Sarah Palin SNL Reactions

My impression: she's a natural on camera; completely comfortable - no surprise. And clearly a good sport. The SNL cast, on the other hand, seemed a bit uncomfortable and stiff. Alec Baldwin's a good sport, too. Josh Brolin's monologue got some dead air when going after Bush. I think people have figured out that going after Bush is overdone, and completely playing-it-safe. Everyone bashes Bush; Bush doesn't bash back, he doesn't demand your suspension, he doesn't go after your … [Read more...]

Dirty Bombs, Dirty Elections; a roundup

Okay, enough fun and games with the pie recipes - here's a roundup of everything I'm finding interesting today. A smorgasboard. Bill Ayers is just a really nice guy in the neighborhood. I personally think McCain gains nothing in going after Ayers - particularly not in this debate where, having challenged McCain to say something "to my face" - Obama will be loaded for bear and ready to shoot down any concerns with appropriate (and mild-sounding) spin. But I'm sure McCain - his sense of honor … [Read more...]

Prom Queen of Love

Three beauties photographed by Carolyn Pass Got this great story from reader Frank, who found it here. Never has the selection of a homecoming queen sent so many tears falling so freely. Kristin Pass, an 18-year-old senior with Down syndrome, became Aledo High School's homecoming queen Friday to a joyous standing ovation and the flutter of a thousand tissues on a remarkable night for an amazing young woman. Her grandfather, Dr. David Campbell of Corsicana, escorted her onto the field and … [Read more...]

Reactions to Worst. Townhall. Ever. -UPDATED!

Good heavens that was the most boring townhall debate I've ever seen. No "moments" to it. Both the Kerry/Bush and Gore/Bush townhalls were a great deal more informative and persuasive. Brokaw needed more input from the audience and less from his gasbag self. I am told it was better on radio, but to me neither one of the candidates brought their A game, tonight. Both seemed like they needed a cup of Mystic Monk Coffee Vodkapundit says McCain won, just barely. He might be right...but I … [Read more...]

Townhall: McCain's gotta speak to & for America (OOPS)

Tonight is do or die for John McCain - this is his absolute [next-to-the] last chance to speak directly to the American people, unsuppressed by media filters. (Except for the next debate, at Hofstra University, which I'd forgotten. Oops. Yes, I blushing.) And the filters are working overtime, as Patterico demonstrates here: Today John McCain finally began to tell the country about his own efforts to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and the Democrats’ incredible inaction. Yes, as many of … [Read more...]

Obama/Ayers: Palin DID handle that well! – UPDATED

Ann Althouse first made the observation, and she linked to a reporter shouting a question and Palin answering. You'll want to go see it before it - like the SNL skit on the sub-prime markets/financial crisis - gets pulled. Because we live in an era where anything that doesn't fit the narrative gets pulled. And let me point out that it is not President George (the "evil nazi who is squashing our civil rights") Bush or anyone in his administration, who keeps doing all this information yanking … [Read more...]

Palin Biden debate reactions running thread

I thought both debaters helped their candidates a bit tonight, and I will always like Joe Biden, but I will call Palin the winner, first because she had to prove she is not the caricature being developed by the media, and she did that, but also because of the stunning consensus of the Frank Luntz audience in St. Louis, who declared her the hands-down winner and expressed a real connection. When I saw that audience response to Palin I thought: here in a nutshell is why the other side has worked … [Read more...]

Vespers Oct 02; The Guardian Angels

Today I have been literally bombarded with emails - so much so that I've read barely nothing in the news. One emailed question I got several times today was "are you really praying and fasting? If you are, maybe I will too..." Yes, I am. I'm praying and fasting "that wisdom and light be brought to guide our nation in this election period, and that Thy will be done..." whatever that ends up being. I was a little appalled to get one missive from a lady who said she was Christian but was … [Read more...]
