Comrade is “Official” Journalist? Certified, Da or Nyet?

I find it increasingly difficult to look away from a Nancy Pelosi presser, less because of what she says, but for how she says it. Her shuddering gestures and stammering cadences remind me of Judy Garland (and, lately, her daughter, Liza) gassing away in the moment and then smiling broadly at the audience when a sentence is finally completed. It's unnerving; it's discomfiting and -- when coupled with her astonishing willingness to say almost anything in order to sustain and promote the Party … [Read more...]

A Most small-c Catholic Drama

Over at Pajamas Media, I have a piece that you might call an addendum to my weekend article at First Things. In 2009 an Arizona woman, pregnant with her fifth child and suffering from pulmonary hypertension (an often, but not always fatal complication), consulted with her doctor and the ethics committee member on call — a Catholic Sister of Mercy — and obtained an abortion at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. As the story has gone public, the reactions have been predictable across r … [Read more...]

I still think Achtung Baby and Zooropa are two of the best … [Read more...]

Perhaps he should say something. To which Knoller replied: i'm sure he would if asked since a former US pres made the comment.Whether a president who sees his country coming to a full rolling … [Read more...]

Obama & Dems: Put your dreams away…UPDATED

My husband works for a company that is trying to sell their product to places like Lowe's and Home Depot.I hear Obama say "BUILDING SPRAWL STOPS NOW!" and I think, there go 800,000 jobs. And along with those jobs, probably another 100,000 jobs in retail and business technologies. And there goes an awful lot of tax revenue. How we are supposed to pay for this beast of a bill without taxable earnings is something the great "I Won" - who can't say a positive word about industry, … [Read more...]
