Rush echos The Anchoress – UPDATED

UPDATE: Nancy Pelosi poisoned her own meal ticket.I said it on September 26, and I think I said it first: I am sure that things are in deeply serious and yes, something needs to be done, but there is also something illusory at work here. I wrote:It seems to me that there is an illusion being worked in the middle of all this frenzy; if during this crisis, the Democrats can still worry about laying themselves out for ACORN, and Harry Reid can take the time to try to sneak a ban on oil shale … [Read more...]

545 people with too much power…UPDATED

Steve at Wizbang says: amid our crisis, the Congress sends the president a big spending bill, full of earmarks, and containing fakery about offshore drilling Had enough yet?Charlie Reese skipped the part about the press than enables these 545 people, but he still wrote a beaut of a column - apparently back when Reagan was president - in the Orlando Sentinel. I note updates in the parentheses:The 545 People Responsible For All Of U.S. Woes BY Charley Reese(Date of publication unknown)-- … [Read more...]

Crash; Throw Them Out Running Thread

As I did in the beginning of Palin-mania, we'll keep a running thread going with links far and wide, constantly updated, newest posts just below the rant, so keep checking back! Watch the video first! (H/T)EARLY RANT: (Scroll past this for latest updates) I need to first opine that the Democrats yesterday blew my mind with their last-minute addition of 56 billion to the bail-out, their sneaky, slippery attempt to play political games with some of this money - directing it to ACORN (!) - and … [Read more...]

McCain right. Me wrong.

Okay, I really need to hold to a hard-and-fast rule that I sometimes forget, which is to not write while I'm emoting; to get away from the desk and go think for a while before writing. I wrote a lot yesterday; much too much. Lesson learned. On the bailout itself? I'm undecided and a little concerned.Yesterday I wrote that McCain's suspending the campaign was a dumb move, that it might be noble, but it was politically stupid. The danger of focusing too much on politics, of course, is that … [Read more...]

Postpone the debate? Dumb. – RECONSIDERED

Many on the right of the blogosphere seem impressed with Sen. McCain for him suspending his campaign, pulling ads and trying to postpone this Friday's debate on Foreign policy.McCain is making a lot of missteps, lately - keeping Palin from the press is one of them; yes, they treat her savagely and like a pack of jackals, but that's not going to change if the team wins, so just throw her out there and let her sink or swim.I think this "campaign suspension" is another mistake. Even though it … [Read more...]

An Obama Greek Tragedy of Absent Love?

I like this piece by the Headmistress, which echos much of what I feel about Barack Obama; that while I dislike his policies, there is something about him that I like and almost sympathize with. I won't vote for him, and I still believe he never meant to be the Democrat nominee in '08; I think he meant to be Hillary's veep, at best - he'd soften her bristles, warm her chilly edges and give her ticket class and panache, and he'd get 8 years to learn the ropes and prepare himself to walk into the … [Read more...]

Financial Crisis: Bailout people, not powerful!

Remember Al Gore's wild chant in 2000, "the people, not the powerful! The people, not the powerful!"Well, I got a little sense of that - and a Chris Matthewsian tingle up my leg - when I read this idea (H/T Instapundit):If (1) the federal government really has about a trillion dollars to throw at this problem, and (2) taxpayers are being asked to foot the bill, then (3) why not structure the solution so that, as much and as directly as possible, "we the people (the taxpayers)" BAIL OUT … [Read more...]

Dems run away; McCain shows leadership

I'm sorry...my jaw is ON THE FLOOR at this headline: Democratic Congress May Adjourn, Leave Crisis to Fed, TreasuryThe Democratic-controlled Congress, acknowledging that it isn't equipped to lead the way to a solution for the financial crisis and can't agree on a path to follow, is likely to just get out of the way.Lawmakers say they are unlikely to take action before, or to delay, their planned adjournments -- Sept. 26 for the House of Representatives, a week later for the Senate. While … [Read more...]

Obama has a "troop-gate" – UPDATED

UPDATE II: Here is a long and anti-climactic denouement to this whole story. Bottom line: both the press and Obama need to be taken with a grain of salt. We should know that, by now. :::Yes, yes, yes, Sen. Barack Obama really did - while on his "Behold, It's Me World Tour" - interfere with American foreign policy and troop withdrawal negotiations in Iraq:The Obama campaign spent more than five hours on Monday attempting to figure out the best refutation of the explosive New York Post … [Read more...]

Abortion Survivor on Obama's Vote

The way I understand it, the Infants Born Alive Bill was introduced to the IL Senate and Obama voted against it because he wanted it to have the same language as the Federal Born Alive Bill. When the bill was re-presented containing that clause, Obama voted against it again. So, given the chance, twice, to vote against infanticide, Obama voted for.He also lied about all of this earlier in the campaign, before admitting that he was lying.Obama has the most liberal voting record you can have … [Read more...]
