A Splendid Rant on Boomers!

Barbara R. Nicolosi, Slayer of BoomersAnd today we enter Week 4 of Patheo's summer-long look at the Future of Religion; The Future of Catholicism.Mainline Protestants, you're next, then Evangelicals, then Mormons, and so forth.I can't say I have had much to do with putting the "Catholic" week together, as I have only started working over there these past weeks, while this effort has been in the works, but I think Patheos has put together a pretty provocative group of essays on the subject, … [Read more...]

Obama crashes; Hillary Waits – UPDATE

Don't know if this is making the rounds, but it should be - Obi's Sister cracked me up with this opening:While the honeymoon has been over for a while, inside sources whisper that Obama is now sleeping on America’s couch. It won’t be long before he’s kicked out of the house and asks his secretary find him a place to live.Obi's Sister wonders why Hillary Clinton did not speak up about strong-arm tactics from Obamites during the 2008 campaign? Hillary, like Ronald Reagan, would never expose an … [Read more...]

What's wrong with Jaden Smith? Nothing

Having enjoyed Jaden Smith's performance in The Pursuit of Happyness, (a film I liked very much) but uninterested in his current flick, The Karate Kid I had somehow missed the pop-controversy over whether or not young Jaden is a likable kid, or a brat.He seems quite alright, to me. In fact, the kid seems better than alright; he may be that Hollywood creature so rarely-seen-in-public, the product of a happy childhood. Jaden Smith strikes me as an intelligent and mannerly kid who spends the … [Read more...]

Has Social-Justice been Co-opted?

Over at Patheos, Timothy Dalrymple offers Part I of what he is referring to as a "Three Part 'Tea Party Suite'". Here he asks the thoughtful question, Is the Tea Party a Social Justice Movement?Since it is intent on the formation of a more accountable and more restrained government that will better serve the interest of all Americans: Is the Tea Party movement a social justice movement? When I asked this question of my beloved liberal friends, they were mortified. There may be no quicker way … [Read more...]

Paul McCartney, intellectual…UPDATED

...still trying to prove he's as smart and as cynical as John.Still trying to get John to love him.How pathetic, infantile and classless. And totally uninformed. And the reaction of the "guests" gracing the White House? Predictable. They are all, after all, stalled at age 14, and stuck in 1968.Perpetual adolescence mixed with Botox is one creepy cocktail.UPDATE: Over at J's Cafenette Sue gives an example of class. … [Read more...]

Pray for Nancy Pelosi

Just pray for her.Pelosi’s office did not respond to CNSNews.com’s follow-up questions regarding the speaker’s statement that she seeks to make policy in conformance with the values of the Word made flesh. It takes a special kind of cognitive dissonance to speak fervently of the Word Made Flesh, and to understand that by his Incarnation God has ennobled all mortal flesh with a sanctity and a holiness relative to his own, and yet to consistently vote--as Nancy Pelosi did in 2003--against legi … [Read more...]

The Privileged Call for Limited Dictatorships

When I read last week that Woody Allen likes the idea of letting President Obama be a dictator for a "few years" I was repelled; but then I've found Allen to be a repellent individual for decades--since Manhattan, at least--so I just shrugged it off as the foghorn bleat of an over-privileged mediocrity looking for some attention. But then the equally mediocre Tom born-wealthy-high-carbon-footprint-lover-of-Chinese-Communist-Capitalism-I've-got-mine-you-should-not-have-yours Friedman let fly … [Read more...]

Obama & the Press: Voices Carry – POLL

Noting that the press seems torn between being justifiably angry at President Obama for his dismissive attitude toward them (and his disinterest in press conferences and "transparencies") and their instinct to lay down, roll over and let him rub their bellies while they pant, Allahpundit remarks: this relationship is the definition of co-dependency, isn’t it?Well, yes, we've pretty much established that the White House press corps and most of the mainstream media are the well-paid equivalent o … [Read more...]

Speaking of Nino & Other Things

Playing with the ongoing non-story of SCOTUS Nominee Elena Kagan's sexual orientation, Michael Kinsley has written a rather amusing satire about the sex lives of Supreme Court Justices:Why does Justice Antonin Scalia, by common consent the leading intellectual force on the Court, have nine children? Is this normal? Or should I say "normal," as some people choose to define it? Can he represent the views of ordinary Americans when he practices such a minority lifestyle? After all, having nine … [Read more...]

This young woman is confused about many things.Horowitz: Will you condemn Hamas?Chilling Young Woman: Would I condemn Hamas?Horowitz: ...as a terrorist organization, a genocidal orga -CYW: Are you asking me to put myself on a cross? An interestingly phrased answer that hints at cultural confusion. The Muslim young woman is a Jew-hater who alludes to the possibility of suffering a martyrdom most-identified with by Christians, should she declare her beliefs. This young woman is further … [Read more...]
