:::BREAKING!!!:::PATHEOS EXCLUSIVE!!!:::PARODY!!!!!:::LIGHTEN UP PEOPLE!!!:::This is huge, guys, and I'm so proud that we're breaking it here at Patheos! In a move that is sure to reverberate within the deepest corridors of the Vatican, members of the Society of Jesus have today announced that they will be admitting women into the Society as full Sisters. Nun News for Autumn 2012

nunnewsnetwork

I was surprised to receive an email, and a couple of tweets, from people wondering why I had not perpetrated my annual "Nun News" post, focusing on vocations. To be honest, I have just been too busy, but I have been amassing a HUGE list -- so large that each time I look at it, I feel too tired to begin. But today is the feast day of St. Terese of Lisieux, so, it seems a good day to get to it (and as ever, thanks to Brian J for the cool logo!):Let's start with the Sisters of Life for no … [Read more...]

In honor of St. Dominic and his Sons and Daughters

Another vowed Domincan nun! – UPDATE

I have seldom encountered such a punch of supernatural serenity.Just six months later, the Dominican Nuns of Summit, NJ are celebrating again as another young nun pronounces her first vows and becomes Sister Mary Cecilia of the … [Read more...]

October Gift: Renew Our Rosary Appreciation — UPDATED

The wonderful Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary have produced this really lovely video to help us appreciate the Holy Rosary and to deepen our abilities to ponder the 15 fundamental mysteries they entail. I enjoyed it very much, especially the lovely soprano voices!UPDATE: The sisters did a quick adjustment to the video as they note here. It's been updated here. Sister Emailer informs me that the first version was "elongated" which she didn't exactly mind (hey, a girl … [Read more...]

The Rule of Augustine Retold

One more for Vocation Awareness Week: Longtime readers know how fond I am of the Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, in Summit, New Jersey, and it's not just because they make fabulous hand cremes, lip balms and so forth (I note they appear to have completely "sold out" of their Christmas stock!).What I really love about these nuns is that they are utterly serious about God, about their spousal relationship to Jesus Christ and their fidelity to the Rule of Augustine, but … [Read more...]
