This is how Hillary should always dress

Reading up in anticipation of Hillary Clinton's scheduled press conference (which has not happened, as I write this) I must say I really, really love the way she looks here, in this pant-suit, which I am cribbing from this headline:That looks terrific. Black is always a great color on her; she is not buttoned up to the chin; the necklace sits beautifully; the 3/4 sleeves give her a relaxed and softened look. The white contrasts in buttons, shell and pocketpiece are terrific. That's a … [Read more...]

Michelle’s #Bowdown Dress an Overrated Rare Mis-step

Regular readers know that while I generally wear rags, myself, I love fashion and sometimes write on it. When it comes to first ladies, I think Michelle Obama nails it more often than blows it, but I honestly am not getting all the media-gasping #bowdown fuss caused by this black and blue Carolina Herrera-designed gown she wore at last night's State Dinner.Bowdown-worthy? I don't think so. The gown is nice enough, I guess; it doesn't look comfortable, though. The skirt looks stiff and … [Read more...]

The Condescending French Fashionista and African American Style!

00d/36/arve/g2460/053

Oh, pul-ease, honey! In what has been interpreted as an outdated and insulting move, a fashion blogger for the magazine's site posted a piece about Michelle Obama's sartorial prowess and the rise of a 'black-geoisie'.New York Daily News goes so far as to brand the magazine as 'racist'. . .To which one can only respond in one's best Bette Davis voice, "but ya are! Ya are..."From the Daily News: When it comes to commenting on the Obamas and African-Americans, French Elle … [Read more...]

The Cardboard Cut-Out President?

I like this gown very much; the color is great on the First Lady, and I like the blingybelt, too. She looks regal and gorgeous. Not as much as I liked this exceptionally flattering dress that she carried off with perfect posture in 2009 (and I have always said she looks best in an antique gold effect) but this is a lovely dress, and it's too bad neither of the ladies was "ready" for the shot.Meanwhile, look at the president. All I can think is, "cardboard cut-out" -- you know, like the … [Read more...]

Beautiful and Well Played Mrs. O

I love, love, LOVE this dress on Michelle Obama. It is beautifully designed, flattering, elegant and effortless-looking.Michelle Obama wearing Naeem Khan, AP Photo Susan WalshAnd Mrs. Obama's posture, which sometimes seems a bit slouchy, is perfect. She makes an altogether superb picture as First Lady. Downright regal.I know the gaga press considers everything she wears to be perfect, but Michelle Obama has been hit-and-miss, to me.This is a hit; a very palpable hit!And I … [Read more...]

Michelle Obama’s Ball Gown

Alright, I haven't indulged my inner fashionista in a long time, but I must comment about Michelle Obama's Inaugural styles.First off, Mrs. Obama looked fantastic in this Narciso Rodriguez creation for the pre-inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial. She looked comfortable, the black-and-tan was dynamite on her and she looked warm; by far my favorite of her outfits. Everything about it - FABULOUS!Unfortunately, she did not look anywhere near as comfortable, or as warm, at the … [Read more...]
