... Today's Fine Art Friday celebrates the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The faithful, under the guidance of an unerring Catholic instinct, have ever recognized the queenly dignity of the Mother of "The King of kings and Lord of lords": the Fathers, the Doctors of the Church, Popes, down through the centuries, have given authoritative expression to this truth and the crowning testimony to this common belief is to be found clearly expressed in the wonders of art and in … [Read more...]

... The human body is an absolute wonder. I find anatomical illustrations in old medical books as stunning to contemplate as the finest works of art. I'm awed by God's attention to detail.Speaking of the body as an example of God's fine craftsmanship... the female body is miraculous in it's ability to grow and nourish life. Some of my favorite images of the Blessed Virgin are of her nursing the infant Christ. Holy Name of Mary …

Alessandro Allori, Hail Mary or The Annunciation c.1603

You'll have to go to mass two days in a row. Gasp! Unless some diocese out there has decreed otherwise, and you never can tell now-a-days. I think us Catholics have been made lazy by the various mass time options provided every weekend. Not that I'm complaining. Some days you just need a few extra hours sleep. But yeah, … [Read more...]

Miracles, I tell ya. They’re everywhere…

OLG

An image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was spared from a fire that left an entire parish in ashes in rubble. The heroic staff emptied the water department hoses ..and put out the fire. The chapel was reduced to rubble and it was when they began to remove the charred remains that they discovered the “miracle”. The wooden box [frame] with the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe was burned minimally, while the altar wall that held it was destroyed by fire. Also, the image of the patron saint was tur … [Read more...]
