Featured Vendor – Mark S. Abeln Photography…

"The Apotheosis of Saint Louis" - The bronze sculpture depicting Saint Louis IX, King of France, and is located atop Art Hill in front of the Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park.

... Looking for something beautiful to decorate your walls? Then let me introduce you to the photography of a long time friend, Mark S. Abeln. You might be familiar with his blog, Rome of the West, where he features a lot of his fantastic work. Breathtaking stuff like this and the image below. I rather like this photo of The Apotheosis of St. Louis. It's very handsome and would look quite manly matted and framed on some library wall. Personally, I love his floral photography. The … [Read more...]

my favorite Christmas present…

rosary

... Melanie, aka The Rosary Chic, at Trendy Traditions sent me this beautiful rosary. Lookit, it even has my name on it! I was immediately struck by the Spanish style crucifix because it looks very much like the one my Abuela owns. When I asked Melanie about it she said it was hand cast from a 'family' rosary by a woman in Washington which makes this rosary, my rosary, truly unique. The beads are a beautiful red, my favorite color, but most striking is the Our Lady of Guadalupe center and … [Read more...]

The Adventures of Tintin…

poster

... A very quick review. The Adventures of Tintin My son & I have been long time fans of the Tintin comic books and we carried that enthusiasm with us when we went last evening to watch the movie opening night. Neither of was disappointed. I was anticipating the latest instrumental music score composed by John Williams - one the most recognizable composers having done the scores for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, and the movie that gave me an irrational fear of … [Read more...]

Carmelite_copy_2_copy

... Dear readers, Catholic Bling is offering a 10% discount for orders using coupon code "CRESCAT". I can attest to the quality and detail that go into their product. I received a very lovely skinny wrap bracelet and was quite pleased with the attention that went into it's design. I imagine it took quite a bit a time to make. Again, I encourage you to shop from local Catholic retailers whenever possible. It's as convenient as shopping online at big chain retailers but goes to supporting … [Read more...]

more genuine Christmas music…

A fine gift idea for the music lover. hint hint, wink wink.

... I say 'genuine' since not all music labeled Christmas Music and played this time of year has necessarily anything to do with Christmas. Interestingly too, most typical Christmas Music is played during the season of Advent and immediately stops the day after Christmas, when the rest of us are just beginning the Christmas season. So really it's more Winter Music about snow and presents and flying reindeer. Oh, I'm not one of those people; the anti-Santa crowd who demand everyone say … [Read more...]

pden

... truly, the season is marked with the appearance of Pennsylvania Dutch Eggnog, made by Dairyland Distillers Co. Short of making your own or buying a commercial brand and spiking the hell out of it, Pennsylvania Dutch is by far the best manufactured brand I've ever tasted - and I've tried them all. I'm anticipating Catholic Drinkies post on holiday spirits. Until then I guess we'll have to amuse ourselves with eggnog recipes and favorite holiday brews, wines and cocktails. I'll go … [Read more...]
