When A Teen Rejects Their Parent’s Faith…

simpsonschurchwide

... I have to say, as a parent this is one of my biggest fears. It's a nasty world, even nastier when you face it without the roots of firmly planted faith. I should know. I spent the majority of my youth rebelling against all types of authority, most especially religious authority. So I can say with 100% certainty that this article is probably the most accurate thing I have ever read on the subject. And I don't say that lightly.Dr. Gregory Popcak writes; When teens fight you about … [Read more...]

... You wanna know what it's like to watch kids play baseball? More specifically, your child play baseball.Let me break down. The other team has boys on first and second. The kid up to bat hits a line drive straight to your kid in left center field. Your kid catches the hit and throws it to third like a boss. And the kid on third ... yeah, he catches the ball alright. And proceeds to throw the ball to first. Without even touching the base or tagging the runner. And I was like ... … [Read more...]

Cohabitation is a smack in the face …

... Working in real estate affords me a candid peek into different types of living arrangements, many of which are considered unconventional. You'd think I'd be used to some things having been in this business close to a decade. But I will never ever get used to the well meaning parents who casually co-sign for their children to cohabitate with their significant others. That, that right there blows my mind.I cannot even begin to count the number of bright young girls who've sat at this desk … [Read more...]

... In case you weren't aware, I loathe television. I especially loathe the T.M.I. commercials for things like erectile dysfunction medication and feminine hygiene products. It's because of the latter I may have inadvertently told my son women lay eggs. I just got so flustered. What do you say when your nine year old son asks what tampons are?I tried to handle his question with maturity, but yeah. Who are we kidding here? The Boy: Mom, what are tampons for?The Mom: Well... … [Read more...]

Where I Become Completely Unhinged…

... What is it about "rent is due on the first of each month and late after the fifth" that is so damn hard to understand?! If it's November 6th, guess what, your rent is late and you pay a late fee.Every month it's the same thing, and the same people. They come strolling in the day after the fifth and act all surprised and indignant when I tell them they need to pay a late fee. They even have the gall to argue with me about it. They pout, swear, and call me names - like mean-y rent lady. … [Read more...]

Brainwashing your children is your parental duty…

... So yesterday I had about 4 hours to kill while waiting in line to early vote. While I was there I met a lovely young black woman wearing a t-shirt that said "They stole us. They sold us. They OWE us." and I thought; gee, she looks stunning for being over 150 years old! I'm guessing she was about that age since slavery was abolished in 1865. Hey, don't let history get in the way of your overwhelming sense of entitlement.Speaking of stupidity and politics; have you ever discussed with … [Read more...]

Follow Your HeartFollowing your heart while leaving behind your head leads to a world of trouble. I wish someone told teenager Kat that twenty years ago. Following heart, bad. Stopping to think, good. The heart wants all sorts of crazy things and telling your child to follow theirs gives them a free pass to follow those desires without stopping to consider the consequences those actions may have on others. You Can Be/Do Whatever You Want If You Set Your Mind To ItWhen I was a little … [Read more...]

Public school as lion’s den…

... For a few months now I've been trying to get my son into MACS, the local Catholic school system here in Charlotte. It's been no small task. The paperwork alone took almost 3 weeks to organize. I'm still waiting to hear about the status of my financial aid application but unless some miracle happens and they say "Hey, you're so poor we'll cover 95% of your son's tuition" it's still highly unlikely I can eek out the tuition cost each month. But I at least have to try. When your nine old … [Read more...]

... When my son told me the children's choir was performing Lord of the Dance at mass this weekend I was a tab bit confused...The Boy: No, it's a real song. The Mom: Really? A song called 'Lord of the Dance'? Will there be tambourines involved? The Boy: Noooooo. Just a guitar maybe. The Mom: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! Well, let's hear this 'Lord of the Dance'The Boy:♩♪♫♬ I danced in the morning when the world was begun. I danced on the moon and the stars and the sun. ♩♪♫♬ … [Read more...]
