Blackthorn’s Botanical Magic

Amy Blackthorn’s book, “Blackthorn’s Botanical Magick” creates a world using aromatics for magick, spells and healing. At first glance, this may seem like a book of potions. True, there are many recipes for creating oil blends but this book has so much more to offer the seeker.

Let’s start with the many essential oils that are covered. Amy Blackthorn describes multiple oils, starting with Angelica and ending with Vetivert. She gives you the latin and common names, discusses herbal lore and magickal correspondences. Blackthorn, also includes spells and magickal uses for each and every oil.

I really enjoyed Amy’s writing style. Not only did she come across informatively but her humor and encouragement give confidence that even the beginning witch can appreciate.

Spells

One of my favorite parts of this book is the spell working.  It may be the names given to the spells that I cherish, such as “Tough Cookie” (intended to aid in ‘remembering your inner and outer strength) and”Raining Sunshine” (to increase prosperity and lift spirits.) The formulas are creative and fun, striking cords with the imagination as well as to the practical.

I really liked the unique uses of essential oils in the spells. Herbs are often used in spell work and rituals, but some can be hard to obtain. By using essential oils, your spells will not only have more power but you may be able to find the oils in areas that do not have a good herbal source.

More

This book has contains more than just spells. It is a guide to learning about herbs and essential oils. Blackthorn talks about carrier oils in detail, tools to enhance and how not to get overwhelmed with this new found world. She also talks about divination and rituals by sharing recipes to connect. This book will give you confidence to create your own blends.

Amy Blackthorn is an herbalist and certified aromatherapist. She has a strong background in teaching Hoodoo and has her own company Blackthorn Hoodoo Blends.” Amy’s expertise shines through with this book. I highly recommend it!
