Catholic priest to be tried for abuse

Catholic priest to be tried for abuse April 7, 2011

A SOUTHERN California Catholic priest, accused of having sex with a 12-year-old boy,  has been ordered to stand trial on felony charges by a San Bernardino County judge.

Fr Alejandro Jose Castillo
The trial of the Rev Alejandro Jose Castillo was ordered after a preliminary hearing on Tuesday that there was enough evidence to try the priest with seven counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14 and one count of forcible lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14.
According to this report Castillo, in his late fifties, will be arraigned on April 28.
Prosecutors say he was pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Ontario when he molested the boy in late 2008. He has since been removed from his post.
Last September, says this report, parishioners and friends of the priest created the Coalition to Exonerate Father Alex Castillo.
The group held prayer vigils every Friday night and twice held marches in his support. One march was in front of the diocese offices in San Bernardino.
Ted Campos, a longtime friend of the priest who has organised the coalition’s efforts, said:

We, the coalition, stand behind father Castillo. We are there to support him in his time of need.

The Coalition has since managed to raise $24,000 to bail Castillo out of jail.

    Another one eh?
I’d actually be more surprised if *any* priest / pastor / rabbi/ etc. genuinely turned out to be a normal, well-adjusted, balanced, humane individual that you could meet with for a drink and go out socially with without your skin crawling, at this rate!

  • Milz

Let’s re-write this as they mean it “We, the coalition, stand behind father Castillo, and indeed all paedophile priests. We are there to support him in his time of need, and use our political powers to protect this holy sex offender.” There that’s better.

  • L.Long

I can say I am shocked to hear this!
Who would ever had thought that a priest could be capable of such a thing?
Since I’ve never heard of this happening before (I live under a rock), I’m sure this is a mistake and will be cleared up as just sex ed.

Everybody and especially children should be encouraged to stand behind their priest. It´s probably the safest place to be.

  • A paedophile abuser is a lower form of life, be it a priest or not. But if he’s a priest, the fiend can count on the assumption by the victim that he, as part of an alleged highly moral category, will do no harm.I’m sure there are decent persons even among priests. They should repudiate the criminal, lest they be considered his moral accomplices.

Despite accusations of multiple offences and multiple victims money is being raised to defend him. Yet again, and following Ratzi’s example, the safety and protection of children, is as nothing when weighed against the defence of a priest. If his RC defenders had their way presumably this alleged predator would be freed.

May I just point out that, although they claim to have enough evidence to prosecute him, he has not yet been found guilty? I was somewhat surprised, though, that he had been bailed, but according to another site there are terms attached. It appears, though, that this might be just the tip of the iceberg with respect to the gentleman’s alleged extra curricular activities:

Love this: Ted Campos, a longtime friend of the priest who has organised the coalition’s efforts, said: “We, the coalition, stand behind father Castillo. We are there to support him in his time of need.”
Just like Father Castillo stood behind that 12 year old boy!
It’s like these tards believe it’s OK for priests to have sex with little boys. These people have their morals all mixed up. I guess that’s what brainwashing does to you.

This is just an example of what ppl do when repressed. Human nature, as we are, is intended to meet a partner/mate and experience joy and pleasure. The problem here is the extreme repression causes extreme behaviors. Im sure not all priests are bad ppl. I am not a Christian and am not defending. But, some may not be cut out for such a position. Also, I know there are other religions that practice celebacy….So my question is, how come you dont hear of this with Buddhist monks? There is something so dark about Chrisitanity sometimes. Like WWJD being preached and then they go against the very thing they preach…..If there were no strict rules, there would be no hipocracy and ppl wouldnt be so apt to harm others if they practiced the laws of karma……So when ppl harm children like this, may their karma get them while they are in jail…LOL

The fact is that you’ve got about as much a chance of a fair trial as this Corapi fucker has. Hopelessly romantic of me but I think these allegations should be tried without prejudice of any kind as we try to find whether or not he did what he is accused of.
This is exactly what you find in Muslim countries, where it’s assumed that the clergy are exalted beings and it’s so much harder if not impossible to come forward. One of the few good things to come from the Irish experience is that the old tie-up between church and state no longer exists, to the benefit of all concerned.
Yet we still see people saying that our man must be innocent. Have you looked at the vitriol levelled at those who are accusing this John Corapi of having sex with a follower (an adult just for once)? She is apparently a tool of Satan, destined for eternal hellfire because she has accused him. Now imagine some child who barely understands what has been done to him by a trusted figure, having no idea what to do in the face of adults who are so determined for it not to be true that they would rather vilify the accuser.
It is all we can do to sweep away the sort of “laws” such as sharia “law” and the blasphemy “laws” in Pakistan, and in the case of people like this hope that rationality, progress and our own arguments will eventually prevail.
He could turn out to be innocent. (That’s why the warning from barriejohn should be heeded). Either way, it is troubling that due process and impartial doing of justice is going to be the last thing on anyone’s mind.

Folks, you may not believe me, but I can read the future. With the locals rallying around him, an inept (at best) judiciary system and no doubt Ratty pulling strings behind the scenes, he will probably be sent back to Rome to ‘seek forgiveness’ and escape a jail sentence. How do I know this? ‘Cos this scenario happens EVERY bloody time.
The only reason Ratty gets angry with his paedo-priests is because they get caught.
I would love it if, when found guilty, was put in jail and used and abused daily, and see how he feels being hurt and scared 24/7, but, sadly, this will never happen.

  • “Last September, says this report, parishioners and friends of the priest created the Coalition to Exonerate Father Alex Castillo.

I don’t know what is more despicable the child rapes or his congregation supporting his vile behaviour.
BTW, seeing that the Humpty (Catholic Church) Dumpty continues on its great fall, does anyone think that all the king’s horses and all the king’s men can put Humpty back together again?

  • Daz

“parishioners and friends of the priest created the Coalition to Exonerate Father Alex Castillo.”
Translation: We don’t actually know if he’s guilty or not, but because we like him we’re convinced he’s innocent.
I can understand standing by him. Making sure he has a decent lawyer, and all that, but a: the word ‘exonerate’ would seem to say they’re prejudging the outcome of the trial, and b: they’re prejudging him just as badly as someone who assumes he’s guilty before the trial.

  • Anothe pin falls! So sad it’s playing sex crimes with the kiddies that’s brought another pedo priest undone. Playing sex with the kiddies seems to be the great undoer of these deluded crims. Good though that every cleric is now perceived to be a pedophile whether guilty or not. That can’t be a bad thing.

  • NeoWolfe

Wow. Skeptics in my midst. BJohn adding qualifiers to his post. And asquith throwing in his lot. Well, let’s make it three. Not that I have any reason to assume his innocense, in fact, if I weren’t a skeptic, lots of reason to assume his guilt.
But, there’s a new player in this game. Big money. And much like the Michael Jackson accusations, it became clear at a point, that he’d rather pay than take it to litigation. Soon, feeble accusations began to surface by shady individuals trying to get a piece of the pie. Oh, yes, RCC can afford the best attorneys and could probably find a loophole to free every pedophile, but, they desperately want it to disappear. And the sharks smell the blood in the water.
So, I will await a preponderance of the evidence.
At the same time, I too, have mulled the thought, like kimmy, that something about the catholic priesthood, as an institution is at fault. Celibacy, when everybody wants to fuck somebody, or in youth, someone might assume that an absence of normal desire is a calling from god, when in fact it cry for therapy. But, it’s the use of a position of unquestioned trust to victimize the most vulnerable that boggles my scrotum. Mystified!!!

  • I can’t imagine a child inventing stories about a priest making to him things a child couldn’t even know about, and making deliberate false accusations. Children seldom lie, and if they do, is todefend themselves, never to falsely accuse someone.

  • NeoWolfe

    Angelo Ventura said:
“Children seldom lie, and if they do, is todefend themselves, never to falsely accuse someone.”
Anecdotal opinion. Some children are pathological liars. Especially, children with ADHD or conduct disorder. But, in the case of false accusations, the inference is that the child is being coached by unethical parents. When big money is on the table, the grifters come out of the woodwork.
And I love to see the RCC paying out millions from their ill gotten gains, but, I would hate to see an innocent man have his life ruined if the charges are false.
