Review: PLAIN JANE: THE SHOCKUMENTARY

DSC_0149

Jane Hash is an artist, healer, blogger and activist. She is also barely three feet tall. Born with a genetic condition that left her with multiple fractures, her health was compromised for most of her youth, and her mobility limited by the fragility of her bones. As an adult, Jane seems like a powerhouse of energy, humor, and no-nonsense ass-kicking. Her podcast "Hash it Out with Jane" gives voice to her activism and consciousness raising. But don't take my word for it: see her hilarious and … [Read more...]

Remember the late 1990s? THE CRAFT? Then CHARMED? Then BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER? Then THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT? Then all the witchcraft stuff appearing in episodes of shows like THE X-FILES, MILLENNIUM, etc.?To quote one of the creepier moments of TWIN PEAKS: "It is happening again. It is happening right now."Just in time for Hallowe'en. Heh heh heh. Thanks to The Guardian for pointing out what should have been gradually becoming obvious to most of us these last few weeks. COVEN: American Horror Story’s witchy new season

american_horror_story_coven_cast_a_l

By now you've certainly heard that the third season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY is subtitled COVEN and will be set in both Salem, Massachusetts and New Orleans, Louisiana. As last season's ASYLUM was set further back in time than the first season, this third season goes back nearly three hundred years in its quest to fill an hour of primetime with more sex, gore, violence and perversion than we're generally used to seeing. And I, for one, can't wait. The first "teaser trailer" has been … [Read more...]

Not So Fast….Neil Gaiman sez…AMERICAN GODS is NOT Greenlit.

The Witching Hour: News and Notes from the Media Witch

Put your pants back on!The word on Twitter from the author himself is that the plan to produce six seasons of AMERICAN GODS on HBO is not in any way official:"Seeing news stories about AMERICAN GODS being 'officially greenlit' at HBO. These are just people talking on the internet & not true at all."  (from Neil Gaiman on Twitter)Sorry, folks. Sometimes you have to go right to the source. Blackmore’s Night “Dancer and the Moon” (Review)

Blackmore's Night

This new album from legendary rock guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and singer-instrumentalist Candice Night is the pair's 13th studio album. Like their previous work, the album's songs represent an array of styles and genres, while maintaining a unique signature sound that no other rock duo has achieved: a mix of hard rock, medieval and classical -infused art rock, grad-folk, and gypsy stylings. It's safe to say Blackmore's Night shows no sign of slowing down or losing their edge, although I did … [Read more...]

Adventures of a Devil-Worshipping Whore, or, Why I Don’t Believe We’re Arguing About What We Believe

DemonMRA

So, earlier this month, in response to a request from Patheos for their bloggers to answer the question "What do I believe?"--I wrote about my beliefs. There were many positive comments and some folks, moved by my words and seeing, perhaps, a reflection of their own views in them, shared what I had written on their own blogs.I had not realized at the time that there had been an increasingly-contentious discussion occurring in the pagan blogosphere (and also on Tumblr and Facebook) about the d … [Read more...]

New Documentary in the Works: WITH LOVE FROM SALEM

with_love_from_salem-150x150

A new documentary film chronicling the work of the Salem, MA coven the Temple of Nine Wells has a trailer on YouTube. The group was led by Gypsy Ravish and her late husband Richard, who also established the popular shop Nu Aeon and mail order business White Light Pentacles. In 2011 the Temple celebrated 20 years of Samhain rituals at Gallows Hill, a milestone that appears to be the subject of the film.I will update this space as I find out more about the documentary and any news of its … [Read more...]
