Rob Bell’s Successor Announced: Kent Dobson

From Christianity Today-

In an email sent Wednesday to members of the Grandville, Mich., church, leaders announced Kent Dobson had accepted the lead position.

Dobson served as a worship director in the church’s early days and has preached as a guest speaker in the months since Bell left. He is the son of Ed Dobson, pastor emeritus at Calvary Church in Grand Rapids.

“It’s been 7 months since we began our search for a teaching pastor, and we are so thankful for your prayers throughout this process,” church leaders said in the note to members. “As a long-time member and frequent guest teacher, Kent both knows and loves our community.”

Dobson will be formally introduced on September 9 during the church’s 9 and 11 a.m. services.

My prayers are with this prophetic church an with their new teaching pastor!

  • This is very good news. He is well known and liked already by the church. He is an excellent Bible teacher and communicator. This will be very good for Mars Hill Bible Church.

  • what about Shane Hipps?

Ah, this is good news. I’ve always enjoyed hearing Kent and Mars love him and he love Mars. I think Rob and Shane both would be glad about this hire. Thanks for the info Kurt as well as the link to Shane’s blog. I wonder if he will still be able to speak at Mars if he stays in the area. peace!

Interesting news! I am sad to see Rob leave his church but I’m not surprised. He is a great author and I know he was receiving a lot of harassment on his beliefs and even those who attend his church so good for Rob and best of luck for Kent!
