poem: “madly in love with the impossible”

poem: “madly in love with the impossible” July 31, 2015

Sometimes I write poetry. Not as much these days as I’m doing more prose (like this blog), but here’s a new one.

once again I
fell madly in love with the impossible
trying to flirt with the Milky Way
dance up next to her in the night sky
and catch her eye

putting out my hands
inviting her to take them
hoping for a slow dance song to come around

but she just kept right on spinning
beautifully chaotic weaving orbits
the shiny brightnesses anchored by a center
dark and mysterious and millions of times more
massive than the Sun

did she look at me?
did those eyes meet mine for a moment?
it is enough of a hint to believe in it
enough to sustain me through a quarter-billion-year galactic orbit
until she comes around again
