Stop. No screaming “Don’t you dare take away my second amendment rights!!!””

No shouting the mantra, “Guns don’t kill people, people do.”

None of that until you read this article.

Or at least this piece of it;

In the seven days that ended Tuesday, in addition to the death of Ms. Price, a 3 year old in Georgia, a 3 year old in Louisiana, a 2 year old in Missouri and a 2 year old in Indiana fatally shot themselves; a 4 year old in Texas shot and wounded a family member; a 16 year old in California killed a 14 year old friend in a shooting that officials called accidental; a 15 year old in Texas accidentally shot and wounded a 16 year old friend; and a 13 year old in Indiana accidentally shot and wounded herself.

We’re the guns just innocent means to an inevitable end because the shooters were just bad people? Really?

Or do we have a problem with guns in this country?

Hang on . . . my husband holds a life-time membership in the NRA. I know there are guns in this house, but I’ve only seen one, and that briefly. They are all kept under lock and key in an impregnable safe.

He jokes about his CHL. I decided to frisk him one time in Costco when he was joking about it. It is definitely one of the more humorous and memorable moments in our marriage.

But guns are dangerous. As are knives, but just a whole lot more so. And we don’t hear about toddlers killing adults or other children with knives because they don’t have the dexterity or strength to turn them into murderous weapons.

But apparently, toddlers can and do have the strength to pull the trigger on many makes of handguns.

Grow up, people. You want you guns? Then agree to reasonable methods of licensing and home inspection and ALL necessary safety measures. A basic requirement to anyone who wants a gun is to keep them from rolling around in a car! Everyone who owns one or more should also be required to purchase and use a home safe where they are at all times kept locked up when children are present. Of course, that makes the somewhat ridiculous claim that they are used for home protection useless.

I would surely like to see a comparison to how many home invasions were stopped by gun-wielding homeowners in the last week as opposed to how many innocents were shot by children last week.

As the US degenerates into masses of fear-crazed (pushed by certain candidates for higher office), mob ruled (pushed by a certain candidate for higher office), poorly educated (pushed by certain candidates for the Texas State Board of Education which controls most of the US textbook sales) and increasingly financially desperate people, we’re going to see more and more innocent lives ruined because we refuse to pass common sense laws to restrict the ownership of handguns to adults who actually demonstrate some sense of personal responsibility.

Yeah, my morning rant.
