Moody Radio: Is the Stay-at-Home Dad a “Man Fail”?

Tomorrow, I’m going to debate “Dad Moms” live on national radio.  Here’s the info:

Are Stay-at-Home Dads Violating God’s Design for Men and Women?

Air Date September 12, 2012, Saturday – 8 a.m. CT, Call Live On-Air: (312) 274-9624

Stay-at-home dads: they’re becoming more common, but does this model violate God’s design for men and women? This Saturday on Up For Debate, host Julie Roys discusses the issue with “The Real Matt Daddy”—a Christian stay-at-home dad who argues fathers can serve just as well as mothers as primary caretakers. Also joining Julie will be Owen Strachan, a theology professor at Boyce College, who says the “Dad Mom” is a “man fail.”  Don’t miss this challenging and lively discussion this Saturday at 8 a.m. on Up For Debate!

Here’s the Moody Radio website where you can listen to this debate live at 9am EST.  Given that I have become a scholar of “Dad Moms,” I’m excited for this debate.  As my fellow debater has pointed out, it’s been covered by numerous websites: The Daddy Doctrines, NYC Dads Group, 8Bit Dad, CBS NEWS, DaddyMojo, and oh yeah, The Real Matt Daddy.

I’m thankful for those who have the guts to demonstrate biblical mutuality and fluidity in marriage. It is tragic that there are still those who preach a toxic complementarian (patriarchal) mindset. It is equally despicable that the writer would resort to using such marginalizing language as “man fail” and “dad-moms.” The condescension is sub-christian and unhelpful.
